Hi,

I'm trying to get hold of the 'DAZ Studio 3D Model Pack 1' for Mac OS X, which I understand is a free resource containing the V3 base, Hiro base, etc.

I've tried downloading the file from 'download.com', but the file always turns out to be corrupted (it crashes whenever the file is 'unstuffed', or 'unzipped'). I've tried this several times, and have also searched online for other downloads of the DAZ Studio Model Pack - the trouble is they ALL point towards the same file at download.com! (filename: p5free_content.sit).

So my question is, does anyone know where I can download a working version of the free DAZ Studio Model Pack for Mac? Or does anyone have a copy that they could host somewhere for me to download?

Download.com is the only host for that file, as far as I know, and redistribution wouldn't be allowed. Sorry! Your only option is to persist with the download. I believe the Windows version should work equally well if you have the ability to uncompress a ZIP file.

Yeah, download.com have the only available copy of the file! I've tried the PC version and it un-zips fine, only the installer files are .exe format which is no use to me on a Mac :-(

Ah well, I'm going to try contacting DAZ direct and see if they can help. Will post here if I have any success...

Darn, my apologies, I was forgetting about that.

Ah, don't worry! I was hoping the PC files would be already 'unzipped' as a standard Runtime folder (so I could copy across the files manually), but instead it's a 'handy' installer programme.

Never mind... hopefully I'll hear back from DAZ with an answer!

If you need to unpack sit files get a copy of Stuffit expander, it is free.

^ thanks for the tip but I'm already using Stuffit Expander (I think it comes bundled with Macs as standard).

The trouble isn't with the 'unstuffing' software, it's with the .sit file itself, which is corrupted.

In short:

1. I 'unstuff' the downloaded file, which itself contains a stuffit archive for each Poser character.
2. I 'unstuff' one (or any) of the character files and I get an installer file.
3. I double-click the installer and it tells me that the "file is incomplete" (or something like that).

Or even shorter still: damn!!

Like I said, I've tried contacting DAZ to get hold of a new (and uncorrupted) copy of the original file, but I ain't holding my breath. If I hear anything I'll post here in case any other Mac folk have the same problem.

I've just heard back from the people at DAZ, who have very kindly provided me with a 'private' link to download the file direct from them - which is now working fine! :-)

Unfortunately I'm unable to post the link here (plus, it's only valid for 3 days).

Hence, if you're looking for the free DAZ Models Pack for OS X (and are having the same trouble I did with download.com), then your best option is to contact DAZ Studio direct and hopefully they'll be as helpful with you as they were with me.

This answers one question that's been at the back of my mind, anyway - did DAZ intend those packs to remain at Download.com? Vicki 3 and Aiko 3 are no longer free from their store, and Hiro never has been. If DAZ are willing to give out links, then I assume they know about the freebies and are happy with them; but why not just re-upload them to download.com? shrug
