I need help with the cyber-arm texture.     Any recommondtions or links to good metal textures would be welcome.  I use poser 6 and am trying to make the hand more photo realistic.

Comments welcome

Maybe some sort of a chrome o light metal looking texture?
I'm thinking procedurals may work fine in this case?

I would break out the material into two basic points:

Color (to compliment the warm colors in the photo)

and Texture (the convincing metal aspect)

Here is the next stage.

Is his better?  And if so what would you recommend from here?

are you using reflection?

A little bit of reflections in the hand, and some on the crome arm.   But there really subtle cause i found them too much on the first render.   Here is one with more reflections.

it looks better. you should use more specular on the wires.

ice-boy ( ) posted Thu, 05 June 2008 at 3:35 PM

where did you got this hand?

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Thu, 05 June 2008 at 4:16 PM

That's starting to look very believable!!!!

The arm is a very reworked "V3 cyber-arm" from Daz .  I have tweeked it some though, added a bunch of stuff and got rid of the coverings.   Good prop, i must say.  I have been really happy with it.

I noticed the difference in eye colors. The first render shows a green eye and a brown eye, your next renders show only brown eyes.
Makes for an interesting change in impression - the different eyes in the first render made me think of a fully cybernetic creature (Terminator style maybe), while the renders with two brown eyes give the impression of a natural human with a prosthetic arm.
I don';t know what effect you're aiming for. Either way, it starts to look very cool!

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter

I'll keep that in mind I was trying to get the full cyborg feel, but found it just looked like a mutated eye to me.  I'll start working on that them.

Heres another I still need to lighten up the eye reflection, but I'm prety happy with the arm.

Can you tell us a little on how that was rendered.  The woman looks real.  I'd love to know how to get my renders closer to that.

The woman is real, the hand is what i was working on.

And that is a highly tweeked Cyber arm from Daz.

As for the render 3 standard lights with occlution on and reitrace shadows..
