Subject: Green Bottle?

Does anyone know what the correct settings are for a green bottle glass material would be?  I'm close but no cigar yet.

You'll need to post....  and tell us which color texture you are working with...

Yea a screen shot and what mat you are using will be helpful.

There are some glass mats here, maybe the green one is close to what you want?

Lol, I knew you guys would find something good.

In the meantime I thought about it some more and in the end I used a clear crystal glass from the presets and just changed the diffuse colour to a green I liked and the transparency to a lighter green.

Ended up with a nice one - dunno why I didn't think of doing that in the first place - basic brain malfunction, obviously.

I do have a nice selection of glass colours, plain and frosted... just not on this PC - I must've panicked I guess...  Duh!

Hey Wildman2, I like your cork material and that's a nice tiled surface you've put it on - the glass mat looks similar to what I've got now.  I don't think it's too dark, but I'm looking for many different glass mats now, as I want to do a scene with lots of bottles in it - different shapes and thus different types of glass.  So I'll try a dark green and a lighter green, and blues and browns etc etc.

What are the MatLab settings for your green glass?

Come to that what did you use for the cork?

I used to have a load of cork mats but various hard drive meltdowns later - I don't any more.

I'm not happy with the wine but I can't find the correct refractive index for red wine anywhere, I've searched and searched and searched - nothing.  That bright surface could be a combination of the IBL and the angle of the camera though... but I'm not happy with the way it looks....

wine should be water at 133. would it be easier to send the scene?

Hi, I was trying to find the refract index of various substance and googled for it... Here is something that helped.

The Bryce 5 Handbook - Google Book Search

Hope you find this as useful as I did and still do.

Looks like 2 different opinions there, one says 133 and the other says 33.

I tried it on brandy, and although I don't think I've quite got the colour right, (I don't drink brandy so I have no reference for it) the liquid looks much better at 33 - that setting has improved the red wine too.

Managed to get a nice looking white wine first time.

Wildman2, Don't really want to send the file - 'cos I'm enjoying playing with it - and it's a great excuse to drink red wine.  ROFL!

Cos I've got IBL on, the rendering takes a while each time.

Oh, and I've found a very nice cork texture - improved the image no end.

Hey thanks Thunderstone, I didn't even know there was such a thing as the Bryce 5 Handbook - I thought for a moment you meant the Bryce Bible, and (naturally) I hadn't thought to look in there... probably because it's buried somewhere in my tightly packed car... I think.

Or it might be in Cardiff.....
