Subject: June 2008 Challenge - SPACE

tresamie ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2008 at 6:02 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 5:06 PM

Here is an excerpt of orbital's announcement:

"Well I given this some thought, and I 'd like to go with a Space theme if thats ok. As it's the first time I've entered I'm not sure if that has been a recent theme, so if it needs changing Tresamie let me know.
So think planets, stars, spaceships, rockets, aliens etc.
Cheers
Joe"

It sounds fine to me, and I am sure it will be a fascinating subject.  I can't wait to see what you all will come up with!

Let's run this until the 29th of June, I will give you a day or so heads up and if anyone needs more time they can let me know.  You may enter an existing work if you like, but we would prefer to see a new work created for this challenge... it IS a challenge after all!  You may enter more than one work, but remember that in the voting, each entry will be judged separately.  Please, please, please put titles on your entries, especially if you have more than one.

Let your creativity flow!!!

I would like to submit my recently completed Thunderbird 3 image into this Challenge. Based on the space rocket from the 1960's TV series, Thunderbirds.

Made in Cinema4D 9.6 and rendered with Maxwell Render 1.6

The construction of this scene is outlined at this renderosity thread: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2738550&page=1

We do have plenty of fine entries, so even if I don't get something new pulled together this weekend, there is a good challenge. :)

What a great bunch of entries so far!   Monday, June 30, I will be closing the entries at 23:59 Renderosity time (US Central) and opening up the voting.  This will give you the weekend to finish up any entries.  If you need a few more hours to render, let me know and we can adjust the time a bit.

Last call... get those images rendered!

Well, I didn't get to finish my space goddess amid streaming stars image.  (I have houseguests coming and a sick cat as well as the migraine, so things are a bit distracted) *sigh*

However, it doesn't appear that this image was ever submitted to a contest or challenge, so I'm going to pop it in over the transom and under the wire.

Maybe if more poems and stories were submitted, the guys in the Writer's Forum would join us again?  Follow the link to the only sonnet I've ever written.

It's wonderful to see so many new faces this month!  We have a number of linked images this month, so be sure to look at them all.  Also, there are two pages of entries, don't miss them!  It's time to let the voting begin!  The voting will be in this thread, after this entry.  You get to choose your 3 favorite entries, giving each of them 3, 2 or 1 points.  Remember, you are choosing an entry, not an artist.  If someone has posted more than one entry, you need to indicate which is your choice.

Your vote should look something like this:

Star - "Trek" - 3 points
Space - "Station" - 2 points
Earth - "Rise" - 1 point

Feel free to nominate Honorable Mentions or make comments.

This was a different and interesting challenge, I really enjoyed seeing so many unusual ideas about SPACE!  I was impressed by the quality of the entries and the passion of the inspiration.

Here is the count:

Tied for sixth place, with 2 points:  Porthos' 'Yellow Dwarf', Porthos' 'Spatial Rift' and Thunderstone's 'Red Sun Patrol'

Tied for fifth place, with 3 points:  melancon's 'Gibson Nebula' and alexclark's 'Shuttle'

Tied for fourth place, with 4 points:  bandolin's 'Starhawk' and orbital's 'The Discovery'

In third place, with 5 points:  rich2's 'View of Saturn from Titan'

In second place, with 8 points:  Becco_UK's  'Thunderbird 3'

In first place, with 12 points:  jlcid's 'Via Regia'

Kudos to everyone who entered!  You all did a marvelous job.  Congratulations to jlcid for that great entry! jlcid, please let me know what you want to challenge for July.

I can't wait to see what you will all come up with for this new challenge!

Good selections, all, and congratulations to the winner.  Via Regia is classy and the light source is accurate.

Sorry that I missed the voting, but I now have a new monitor.  It is one of those flat screen thingies (I miss real pixels!).  After 10 years, the old one had lost the entire lower range and much color, so perhaps this will be an improvement after all.  (Hey, you don't want me voting if I can't see half your image, right?)
