Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 1:34 pm)
Thanks for the info, this looks like a great app, i will probably buy this when it's released :) I really like the module/node way of working and if it's runs in combination with vue this will be awsome :D

By the way,
I just found out that Wm2 will be featuring Meshes export!!! Logically this would mean, that this makes overhangs/inwards going terrain possible, but that is just an assumption. I have just opened a thread in the official forums about that.
Just noticed the main sites been updated with some info, looks awsome and like it will be a very useful tool for landscape work. :)

There will be No FREE Upgrades. The pricing goes as follows:
World-Machine 1.25 is all I use for terrains and it is already a Fantastic Tool that I would not trade for any of the others and I have tried the others.
World Machine Professional has been designed from the ground up to support massive multithreading. World Machine Professional is able to utilize up to 16 cores at once to provide the fastest views and builds possible. There are three massively-multithreaded areas in World Machine Pro. I will order my New Version next weekend. Can't wait to play with it!!!

Hi,
I have just looked at this and I must say I am impressed, so can someone that has used both Geo Control and World Machine tell me which one is the better, as I can only afford one or the other.
Cheers
Jon

Well GeoControl is supposed to cost around 159€. You buy Geocontrol1 + 100€ for version2.
All I can tell you is that GeoControl2 is quality and it's not finished yet, I think that the prize is quite high and looking at wm2 right now makes me reconsider a bit.
WM's weakness I think was, that it had pre-built erosion filters that you could only adjust the sliders with. GeoControl 2 features some but has theoretically infinite possibility because you can mix and adjust everything.
And I think GC2 is a lot easier to handle imo, if WM2 still has it's node-system (like the function system in Vue) that you kind of have to understand first. I didn't lol.
We really can't compare both, I wish tho that WM2 this time had a TIME LIMITED DEMO, not a half quality full-time-product for people who like to evaluate. I'm begging for this.
I have been using World-Machine 1.25 for 2 years and I gave a Good Shot GeoControl before deciding I would stay World Machine. As to the Node based, that's what makes it So Powerful and there are already tons of Macros made for WM1 that can do almost anything you want them to do. It's all I use to produce Terrains and World-Machine2 Here I come!!!!

Depends on your CPU and RAM. WM1.25 has a 3GB high address capable structure in a 32 bit environment. WM2 will utilize up to 16 Cores in 64 bit environment, LINK. For me something like a canyon that is Eroded to the Max will only take a minute or two in my 3.0 GHz Intel Core2Duo E8400. That was before I added the Heatsink.

Strange :-/.
It takes me sometimes over 5 mins with my Q67@3,2ghz to build a terrain that would equal a long-noded terrain in WM 1.25
I see a little dificulties in how Geocontrol2 would handle multithreading efficiently, we'll see.
But i bet my cents that Geocontrol2 of both will still be the "control-your-geo" - king.
PS: It seems to me that only the professional version ( 125 $ ) will feature multithreading!
GeoControl looks great also i might get that too sometime. Can't wait for the V2 of world machine now :)

So far couldn't find any pricings myself yet.
Seeing some nice erosions I would be missing in GC2 and probably vice versa. If I'm correct it will also have multicore support so I'm really interested in this. Someone gotta test to import 8192er terrains into Vue!
