I'm planning on purchasing some cheapass machines to use as rendercows for Vue5I.
They are Dells and come with Vista Home 32, as Dell are now chearging 50$ to DOWNGRADE to XP I am wondering if  Vista Home 32 is suitable or not for this.

Anyone here had experiance with renderfarming with this sort of setup?

I'm currently testing Vue 6.60 rendercows on WINE under Ubuntu and it seems i can these to run stable. This would be the cheapest solution. Note that there are cheaper hardware vendors then Dell. My current lowcost setup is AMD Phenom with 8 GB of DDR-II Ram, NIC and VGA on a lowcost Motherboard.

Vista and xp will both work fine together, never had any problems using rendercows over mixed networks.
