if ya got $129 american, they'll let ya update P4 to P7. just keep that in mind, given that P4 rendering is now approx. 13 yrs. out-of-date (1995 rendering engine).I don't know the answer. And I'm not going to tell you to upgrade. I'm the last person that should be saying that anyway given the face that I'm still using version 7 of Paint Shop Pro when Corel is already on version 12! LOL
Anyway, I know about tight budgets so I thought I thought I would pass along this link. Poser 6 is available for 75 USD, and that would entitle you to the upgrade price if in the future you wanted to upgrade to a version 7 or 7-Pro.

Now on the other hand if you are sticking with Poser 4 because you really like that version and it does everything you need the program to do for you, which is my reason for not upgrading PSP, then disregard this public service announcement, hehe

Bear in mind that v6 is somewhat unstable (at least, in my experience, compared to v7). You might do better to tough it out with 4 for a while longer.

I use Poser 6 and don't have any issues with it.

Do be careful to check the system requirements for updating Poser or downloading Studio for free. I only mention this because you didn't say how old your computer was or your OS and going by the versions of Poser and PhotoShop you say you are using. If your OS is any before win2000, you won't be able to run any Poser above version 5 and the latest version of Studio will not work at all. Speaking from experience and still running winMe.
There ya go, talking all technical on me. :) Before I got it all started I made it a point to upgrade my memory (2 GB) and put 4096 GB in cache on each drive through the control panel>system. Anything much further beyond that and it starts turning into Greek to me, I'm just a poor right-wing online magazine publisher. :)
The error I'm getting is an "exception handler" error -- I know when the Mill figures first came out a lot of people experienced this, then came the 4.0.3 patch, I'm wondering if maybe I should've looked for 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 also
I think your 2GB of RAM may be the problem. That amount of physical memory was unheard of when Poser 4 was conceived. I know the others have mentioned it, but I'll risk repeating it here - just ignore me if you already tried this. From memory, there is/was a memory updater in addition to the 4.03 updgrade, and I think you need that too. Unfortunately I couldn't find it at Sith Micro, but I couldn't find the 4.03 updater either so that must be a reflection on my searching skills. ;)
Try contacting smith micro and seeing if they have the other updates. I know they are 80 owners removed, by they might be able to help. Good luck

But I would be incredibly grateful if anyone can come up with an answer to my dilemma that doesn't begin with the words, "Buy Poser 7" ...
My C drive recently crashed ... it was a pain in the butt, but everything I valued was on the D drive anyway, so I didn't lose anything especially valuable -- I thought. My old Poser 4 program and files were all on the D drive, so I assumed that once I got C going again there would be no problem.
But Poser 4 wouldn't run, at all. So I reinstalled it, again on the D drive. Then I searched around, found the 4.0.3 update at SmithMicro, popped it in and voila, Poser runs again. Except I'm getting an exception error any time I click on the head or body of any of my Millennium figures, errors I never got before.
Did I miss an upgrade in there somewhere?
Any advice would be helpful ... I can't afford several hundred bucks for Poser 7, and hate to have to lose everything I've done.
