Subject: Adjusting the shape of a terrain?

speters1 ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2008 at 7:48 AM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 11:29 AM

I am just starting to use Vue 6 Infinite and this is really the first 3d program that I have used. What I need to do is create an iceberg that is in a shape that kind of looks like  a tooth. I have a couple of tutorial on creating icebergs, and I know how to edit a terrain with the terrain editor, but I did not see how I could actually change the overall shape to make it more tooth like? is it possible to do something like this? Or if I had some one make me a tooth shape model in Maya, could I import that shape as a terrain? I am kind of under the gun to create this image and I have only about a week to figure out how to do this, so any advice would be appreciated. One last thing, I want to create this image so that you can see half of the iceberg under water and the other half above the water. What would be the best way of going about getting this look?

Watch video #66 over at GeekatPlay.  It has some great tips on icebergs.

Thanks, I already checked that out and your right there is some good info in there but it does not tell you how to change the overall shape of the iceberg, at least not in the way I need to. I would like to be able to create a tooth shape model but then be able to apply a terrain to it so get the look of an iceberg. Also, how can I create a water line so that it looks like we had a camera half in the water and half out?

Tooth shape as in a molar?  That would be best to model in another program and then import.

Here's a tutorial on the above/below water.

You might want to try mixing a black and white picture of a tooth with an iceberg terrain in the terrain editor.  You can make a simple picture using a paint program.  Make the tooth shape white and the background black.

Create a terrain and double click it to get the terrain editor.  Click 'reset'  then 'iceberg'.
Click 'picture' and load your picture.  Use the little button at the top right of the pic to invert the colors.   Use the mixing slider to try to get something that might work.

Not sure if this is what will work for you or not, but give it a  try.  :)

Greetings neighbours :-)

If memory serves me well, there's a 2 min made molar in the manual of the free Wings3D SDS modeler.
