Subject: Help Exporting from Max to Bryce6

To start off with im totally new to 3d studio max.

I created my model in 3d studio max ,  lets say my model has 3 parts to it.
I name each part in the object properties.
Then i open the material editor.
Select the first spot.
Click on the Ambient and set the color to red.
Click put to library and use the objects name.
Then i click Assign material to selection.

Shader basic parameters = Blinn

When i export this as a wavefront obj i set to group by material, check use materials
and check create material library.

when i import this into bryce6 , the object is black.
i click on the object select one of its parts, goto the material editor,
the diffusion is set to blue (not red) and the diffused value is .3 and ambient is 0.

can someone tell me whats going on here with the mtl file ..

You could try exporting it as a 3DS -  that works fine for me from Max 6, and all the textures are transferred to Bryce OK (but still need a bit of tweaking).  Can't help you as regards obj, I'm afraid as Max 6 doesn't support that export format. Try the guys in the Max forum.

This is a bug in 6.1.

One thing you can do is to use the Bryce/DAZ Studio bridge - Load Bryce and hit the big "S" gadget from the create palette and then from the D|S use the Import item from the File menu using the Import options shown. Then Quit D|S and (at least for me) this loads correctly into Bryce.

Most people just download the free Bryce 5.5 from Download.com and use that for .OBJ imports and load the 5.5 saved file into B6.1.

Yeah on the B5.5 route, but there is a bug report on this in with Daz, and there's recently been some activity in that bug report so there might one day even be a fix for this in B6...
