Subject: Clothing Poser figures

What is the best way  to fit the clothes to the poser bodies  -- like get the body size you want then adjust the clothes or adjust the clothes then fit the body to the clothes.   I have the most problems with the breast being covered by the clothes. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Fitting clothing to a morphed up figure is always a challenge.  All clothing made are made to fit the default figure.  As soon as you change the figure's shape, you've essentailly created a figure that the clothing isn't made for.

There are 3 types of clothing:

Dynamic:  This is clothing that you use inside the Cloth room. It takes longer to work with and there is a bit of a learning curve, but it's not too bad, but the results are more appealing in that the clothing actually looks more natural instead of "posed and stiff".  I have included information about this type of clothing further down.

Confroming- Non Morphing:  This is clothing that you conform to a figure. The clothing is made to fit the base figure.  If you change the shape of the figure you will also have to refit the clothing, which isn't always easy if there aren't any corresponding body morphs in the clothing.  Plus posing a character in positions where they are not nearly upright is difficult.  But many prefer this type of clothing over dynamic.

Conforming-Morphing: This is the same as conforming-non morphing, only there are morph dials that you can turn that have corresponding body morphs for easier fitting.  This is the preferred type of conforming clothing because it's easier to fit. To fit this type of clothing, select the body part of the outfit IE: hip, thigh, chest, arm, collar etc, and look in the parameter dials for morph dials that you can change to help fit the clothing.  Unfortunately sometimes even with morph dials, if you have morphed the figure a great deal, it's still not very easy to fit the clothing.

Using a clothing item on a figure that it is meant to be used on, after you have added morphs and adjusted the shape of the body,  can be problematic because the clothes are made for the default figure shape and not the new morphed up shape. So the clothing no longer fits and you get parts of the body showing through the clothing after you add morphs and change the shape of the body.

There are programs that can help fit clothing from one figure to another, or even from the same figure to one that has been "morphed up" using their morph packages.

The Tailor, which can be bought here:

Wardrobe Wizard (I use this one and it's great). It can be purchased from PhilC's site here:

Clothes Converter, which can be bought here:

There is also another one, I think by EvilInnocence, called "Cross Dresser".

Dynamic Clothing (more information):

A nice thing about dynamic clothing is that you can easily use clothing on various figures. Here are some tutorials on how to use dynamic clothing in the cloth room:

Here are some links to some great FREE dynamic clothing:

It's also possible to make conforming clothing into dynamic clothing:

And it's possible to take a conforming outfit and work with it in the cloth room so that parts of it act dynamic.

There is also this fairly new little program that I have found works like a charm (for conforming clothing):

I think 99% of skirts should be dynamic, but you can either fit conforming shirts or pants this way if they are made with 1 piece mesh - may have some small adds as a buttons, pockets etc, but main cloth must be 1 piece.

  • Import cloth obj preserving groups
    - Pose your figure to fit cloth as well as it possible. You can use scale whole body, body part, morphs etc.
  • If your cloth fited quite good set your simulation few frames only 3-5, if your figure is very different then default conforming figure make simulation longer. In most cases 15 frames are sufficient.
  • If some parts (buttons, pockets) fell down during simulation, check them as a rigid or soft decorated groups in clothing room.
  • In last simulation frame edit => restore your figure and add desired morphs. Calculate simulation.
  • On last simulation frame "spawn morph target" on your cloth. Set dynamic = 0 and new morph = 1.
  • Export morphed cloth as an obj. REMEBER check "save groups names".
  • Import saved obj (DO NOT CHECK "make polygon normal...") and convert it to figure in set up room.

If you used used conforming clothes which need morphs only, you can use bone from this clothes. If you used clothes, which should be conformed to different figure (for you wanted to make Vicky wearing Michaels pants) use bone of figure which is being weared. Optionally you can later delete useles bones as fingers etc.

This is free version of "Wardrobe Wizzard" ;) This way you can convert almost all clothes. Using constrained and choreographed groups you can fit either few meshes props, but it is more complicated. Only armors and fantasy clothes are very difficult but real armors did not changed theirs shapes too ;) Poor knights must keep theirs shapes.
