I have it too and absolutely love it. Besides making your own filter or using the ones available for download, you can also modify those filters to better suit your needs. It's really neat to create textures, but also to add some effects on images. I've personally found it was well worth the investment.

Hi,
If you go to the Filter Forge Downloads page, they have some freebie filter packs. (Currently, Metals, Photo Effects, and Frames.) They are limited editions but might give you an idea of what Filter Forge is capable of doing. ( I have the full Pro version so haven't installed the filter packs as those same filters are available in the main filter library without the limitations. I think they are limited as in you can't edit the effect the filter creates.)
It's a shame you didn't get to use the Demo. I got the program for free as I made several filters that got High Usage ratings.
Yes, although I'm a Mac user I run Filter Forge in emulation with Parallels and Windows XP Pro (their Mac version is still under development).
It's great fun to load your image and try any of the thousands of user-created filters, many of which are highly unique and not seen elsewhere. As word of FF spreads, I can see some other plug-in developers being pushed to the ropes!

Connie, are Genetica and FF very different in what they do or are they very similar? I've been looking at Genetica a bit and wondering if it's worth it since I already have FF...

Hmm, they're similar, and they are different. Different enough to where you will have to spend a little bit of time larning Genetica... but what you learned with Filter Forge will definately help.
Genetica is accepting Beta testers for their new version at the moment, you may want to look into that. It may be a good way to get familiar with the software.
If it's for hobby applications and you're not making a lot of money off the hobby, it may be too expensive to acquire both applications.
Genetica does have couple free lower end apps that may be worth checking into. I can't say I remember what exactly they do. http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/
I love having both, but with Architectural VIZ which I do for work at times, getting them both was a business decision/expense, rather then a hobby investment.
As for which is better... I can't say, they both have features that I can't imagine being without. If I had to, I could also do a ton of stuff with just one.

Thanks Connie! Yup, I'd be using it for work but I'm still not sure if it would be worth the investment or not, I think I'll download the demo, maybe it will convince me. I'm also finding it difficult should I decide to get it which version I should go with, The Studio one is definitely out of the question at 700$, but between the pro and standard version the difference doesn't seem so big yet there's 200$ difference, I don't know if I'm missing some major and very important difference between those 2 versions?
You've done an awesome job on that one, it looks great, just like the real thing! :)

I am interested in this filter pack. I have d/l and installed the demo a while back ago but never used it do to my son going into the hospital. I had uninstalled it when it expired and tried again to install and cannot run the demo.
SO I need someone else's take on it and is it worth the money?
