Subject: Which poser render sttings to use?

Carps ( ) posted Wed, 02 July 2008 at 1:03 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 9:09 PM

now im sorry if this subject has been covered a million times, but im having an issue with a render (im new to poser and daz studio and the like) but i was told poser was better to use, so i decided to give it a go yet the render settings are throwing me a bit, see below

poser

daz

now as you can see the daz studio one looks much better, is there anyway i can get it looking like that in poser? i have fiddled with the render settings and tried the other render engines but to no luck :(

Perhaps try these render settings. This is what I use.

The bucket size is variable and what you set it at will largely depend on your computer's memory. It  can be adjusted by values of 256, 128, 64, 32, 16, 8  if you need to lower  the value if you find that you are running out of memory when rendering.  If you have a powerful computer with lots and lots of memory, you can increase the bucket size to 512.

thanks for the replies - friend of mine has the vtc tutorial for poser 7 by mark bremmer so hes going to send me the chapter 17 folder on rendering, but will try your settings :)

looks like you are using a different version of poser as i dont have a few of the options in your picture, have changed them and it looks a bit better but daz studio still looks a bit better, i will play around with the settings :)

At work and Bmk's at home. It appears you are using P7. Go to the python forurm and find the one that changes the min shader rate. Then find the one by svld that you can change the texture filtering by prop, character or the whole scene. These are two extremely easy to use and helpful tools to increase the quality of your renders. Others have stated here a zillion times and some catch on fast and others like me don't have all their fingers around the issue yet. But the lights can make or break a scene easier then anything

Carps,
Imo choosing program because "render options" are easier to find is not best idea ;)

Anyway your pictures are great especially: hmmm1.png where Vicky is faster then light. Shadow is calculated according to standing figure, when she lays on ground :)

Good luck

BTW the minimum shader rate script grichter is referring to can be downloaded here

I tried to find the post but I really struggled, so I linked the zip download. Hope that's okay. (It's the original site I believe)

it wasnt so much i decided to use poser as it has better render engine, it was more an overall choice, poser has more options from what i can see over daz studio, and from what my tutor tells me its the application to use :)

Thanks for the links i will grab the file(s) and try them later :)

geep could you elaborate on your post, as i say i am extremely new to all this and not too sure what you mean by your post, sorry if im being mr thicky mcthick :p

I have no idea, sorry. I usually leave mine at 1024 unless I'm beta testing and then move the slider all the way to the right.

I accidently stumbled on to it. It's a newsletter freebie for July, 2008.  You need to get it this month or the download link disappears.

i have been away for a few weeks on holiday so am catching up on the emails - thanks for the link :)

raven ( ) posted Fri, 04 July 2008 at 1:40 PM

The max texture size option in Acadia's screenshot is a P6 render option not a script. Apparently Poser 7 was coded to use texture maps more efficiently and so no longer required the option to scale textures down in the render settings. The script grichter mentioned and Silke linked to is a min shading rate script (also available on all characters and props on the parameters palette and as a general setting in the render settings) which determines how detailed the texture can be rendered. The lower the min shading rate, the crisper the texture, although this can also lead to longer render times.

ah i see, thanks for the info, i went and bought mark bremmers poser tutorial for poser (lucky i had a lot of money for my bday) but still i cant get the poser render to look anything like the daz studio render, the dress just looks better in daz, i have played with lights and everything, i must be overlooking something so simple its untrue :p

raven ( ) posted Fri, 04 July 2008 at 6:08 PM

I know the problem!!
I have this outfit too, and the material is not set up right.
In the material room, make sure the dress is selected, and in the materials dropdown, select Fabric. Change the transparency values from 0.1 to 1 and it should render correctly.
Hope that helps.

Carps ( ) posted Sat, 05 July 2008 at 2:00 AM

ah! i have just got to marks tutorials on the materials room, so what a coincidence :p thanks for yet more helpful infomation, will try it later when i have woke up, only been up for 10 mins so still asleep :D

Carps ( ) posted Sat, 05 July 2008 at 4:22 AM · edited Sat, 05 July 2008 at 4:23 AM

well i dont know what im doing wrong, followed all the instructions to the letter and now i can see her pants through the dress :( so in a fit of rage (and to save my sanity) i have removed all 3d apps from my system :p after i have calmed down and done a lot more reading i may come back to this.

Thanks to all for your help - much appricated

Carps ( ) posted Sat, 05 July 2008 at 8:02 AM · edited Sat, 05 July 2008 at 8:03 AM

success!!!! :) after a lot of messing about if was "reflection value" i should have been messing about with using pvc tab under the materials menu :) now it looks nice and shiny when rendered :p

raven ( ) posted Sat, 05 July 2008 at 8:30 AM

Oh right, it was the shinyness you were after. I thought it was the lack of lace on the top of the dress in Poser compared to the DS render. Glad you sorted it :)

still you have given me the answer to that little issue :p

it's from vtc - it deals with everything in poser, not just the one thing

i bought

http://www.vtc.com/products/Poser-7-Tutorials.htm
and
http://www.vtc.com/products/Carrara-6-Pro-Tutorials.htm

and to be honest seeing as i am extremely new to this i found them extremely helpful and has put my confidence in using both ups up quite a bit :)
