Subject: How can I model a fish fin?

I'd like to make a different type of fin for the Lost Realms Mertail. But I don't know how to model a fin in Blender. Can anyone give me some pointers or direct me to a tutorial?

 But I have no idea what you mean by "type of fin for the Lost Realms Mertail." So a little info (and image) would help.
