Subject: poser pro displacement problem

I have a test scene all set up & rendering displacement perfectly in P7 but in Poser Pro it's a mess, anyone else experience this with PP?

Procedural displacement, or image map displacement?

If image map, do you have gamma correction enabled?

If GC, did you remember to set the gamma to 1.0 on the displacement image map?

If not, it will be interpreted as a visual, instead of a height map. You don't want that.

 Hey Baggins,

this is the same displacement we discussed a while back & thanks to you I fixed it but now I get this... aaaarrgh! Anyway, yes, I set the GC correctly and it's an image map disp. Very odd :O/

cheers

Brian

So you're getting bloat again?!?

Is this a 16-bit TIFF?

If you attach the disp map to a one-sided square (into Alternate_Diffuse, and set Diffuse_Value=0, Specular_Value=0) does it render as is - or does it show something different? (Remember the old bug, where it came out blue)

If you do a straight hookup as I described, we can see how Poser is interpreting the image.

Another thought.

The displacement units you type in are mediated by your preferred poser display unit.

If you enter a value as, for example, centimeters, but you're now in feet, it will be wrong.

When you switched over to PPro, did you set up your display unit the same, so the numbers you're used to using mean the same thing?

I think I may have solved it... just need to check but I may have used an earlier version of the mesh that's since been altered slightly and had the UVs redone... stupid error but probably where my issue lies I think... DOH!!

 Hi Baggers

I was right, I screwed up!! All fine & dandy with the correct UVs funnily enough. How's the Mac version of your shaders coming along?

Getting closer. Seems like I sort of know why the buttons don't work, now. Still not sure exactly what to do about it.
