Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 11 12:18 am)
I bought 2.0, the maps and the "up do" threw them in combined them, and then tried to render, at which point poser hangs... It opens the render box, but then, instead of doing the normal "shadow map" or "rendering image..." thing, it just places a drop shadow under the box, and stops working, you can't click on the "stop" box or anything. I have been able to use the new maps on the V1.0 (but not with the hair :) I figure it must be memory or something as I've only got 128Mb in my laptop, not to mention the fact that I'm fighting with windoze, but that's a whole other email :) later jb
Laptop??? perhaps your answer lies there. I've got the most powerful desktop I could build, it laughs in the face of Quake 3 and makes benchmarks crash with divide by zero errors, and yet Poser still struggles. I don't think there is a PC in the world that can run a complex scene with Vicky 2 in it and edit smoothly. Rendering time is unimportant but Poser does slow down and starts misbehaving when there are a few advanced characters in a scene. But... try making your laptop 256mb, and then backup your work, fdisk the drive, and reinstall windows and poser. Every now and then, tell windows not to use any virtual memory, reboot, defrag the drive, tell it to manage its own memory again, reboot again. Say once a month, this will keep windows a little happier. And buy Vicky some new exciting underwear. Maybe shes feeling neglected and causing this crash herself.
I've got the vicky clothing, (too much money and too much free time, that's my trouble, good job I start a new job soon really :) but I've never actually used it, (go figure) I find the bikini, etc, that you can get from the 3DCC actually look a lot better. But I suppose that's about par for the course, plain face & frumpy clothing, somebody should get her onto one of those "life makeover" TV programs really :) I used to run it on a 700Mhz Athalon with 256Mb and never had a problem with 98 or WinMe, but I gave that to my dad, my laptop is a different problem altogether :) Though I find that using fast tracking does tend to speed things up with many characters on screen, not to good for close in work, as you can never get the placement perfect, but with full tracking the whole thing just seizes up, and it's a pain to have to try to hold your finger still on a glide pad for long periods. later jb

bought vic2 and the updo hair and while the morphs and everything are great as an inexperienced user I wish that vic and the hair came pre-posed with a default shapes like they look on daz's preview.....I like them but just wanted to have some fun without having to get involved with all the posing and fixing right off the bat.....oh wait thats why the programs called poser I guess......Anyone have any thoughts on this small rant
