Subject: Soft lighting

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could help me understand how artists such as garyandcatherine and kenwas achieve such wonerful soft and colourful lighting in their images. Is this a case of simply bumping up the softness of the sunlight to a very high degree?

Thanks

Soft shadows is one trick.  Adjusting the shadow density down from the default 100% dark is another.  The biggest part is learning the atmosphere editor and what each lighting model does best.  The render settings are also important to get good results.

No quick and easy answer.  There are lots of great tutorials over at GeekatPlay.com that will help get you started.

OK I thought that might be the case, I just wanted to see if there was something I was missing. Thank you Peggy

to toot peggy's horn... she also has a GREAT class at LVSonline.  I went through her beginning vue class recently, and STILL refer back to each weeks lessons - redoing them - and learning more each time.

I'm looking forward to the "intermediate" class this fall.... and have hopes one day that there'll be an advanced class =D

Ok people,

I seriously wonder what the heck Shadow Density is......

it's obviously not in the atmosphere editor and it sounds like the kind of setting that I am absolutely missing right now.

oooh you mean the properties of the Sun :-)

gee that sucks i never thought about manipulating that itself.

Ah, the shadow density is crucial for that softer more realistic look. Mix that in with other atmosphere/light properties plus render settings for soft shadows & you're on a winner.
