Subject: Poser SR-3 problems

SandDancr ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2008 at 4:04 PM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 9:28 AM

I hope I am not the only one experiencing this....  I installed the new SR3 ( I have Vista Ultimate on a custom pc with 4 gig ram and 1 TB hd) .  Went to open the program and the e-frontier folder is empty....so did some searching and found it under Smith Micro.

Now the problem...it is impossible to install anything to Poser 7 because SmithMicro doesn't show up under Programs and now the e-frontier folder is empty.

Is anyone else having a problem with it?   I uninstalled the SR3...which uninstalled Poser 7...so had to reinstall P7 and SR1 and SR2.  I am afraid to try the Sr3 again.

SandDancr,

the SR really doesn't change Poser's location on your hard drive, it will still be in the same location.  Its just the Start Menu shortcut that is different.  You would install into exactly the same place you have been all along.

The problem is that SmithMicro changed the way that Poser see external runtime folders.
Easy fix is to add a folder in your external runtime, called ' Runtime.' Then add the old folder content into that new Runtime folder and SR3 will see the content.

Hope this helps!

Really.... I didn't know that.  Since all my external folders have a Runtime, I guess I wouldn't have noticed.  But I don't think that is the problem that SandDancr is  having.

Thanks, everyone, but no, it's not the problem I am having.  I use external Runtimes for everything that is not P7 specific, so I don't have a problem with those.

The problem is that I can no longer find P7 to install anything.  Smith Micro doesn't show up as a choice...and  the eFrontier folder is empty.  (When installing you have to choose a path...well, neither path is there!)

I guess I could create an external P7 runtime...but some files object to that...so it's a conundrum.

Even after SR3, my poser is still under Programs/curious labs...

The Poser.exe should be in exactly the same place on your HD. The installer doesn't move anything or rename any folders. It will still be in [Drive Letter]:Program Files e frontier Poser 7. Can you still launch Poser?

"Smith Micro" won't show up for anything, unless you originally bought Poser 7 after they took it over and re-branded it.

Why do you need to find P7, anything called "Smith Micro" or "e-frontier" if you're using external runtimes anyway?
