And this is the first link - it wouldn't work in my browser.

don't know if this helps, but there's a linklist called something like "The Ulitmate Sci Fi and Fantasy" linklist. Can't post the link because of TOS, but also throw 'slawico' in as a search parameter in Google, and it should come up with something. Galleries, galleries, and more galleries.

Over 1,000 links, from pro's ($40k paintings), to simple stuff. Has dead links, popups, and some sites just don't want to 'let go', but it's got some good stuff. It's how I found this place to begin with...;) all those years ago.

If you get a 'dead link' (club 404...;), try the Internet archive, otherwise known as the 'wayback machine'..

do you mean the portfolios of digital artists that are good or digital artist's portfolios that are well done?  and what's your goal?  because those are nice portfolios, but they've got a bunch of usability issues that i personally would eliminate if i wanted to get a job.  they're nice vanity sites, though.

im looking for sites just for browsing and for eyecandy. Im looking for sites that are high quality cgi not illustrations nor concept art.

QUOTES cobaltdream:

Eh... does that not mean the same thing LOL

no.  not at all.  i could post links to the sites of illustrators who have been in the industry for years, do beautiful work, and have sites that are awful and unusable.   or i could show you links to portfolios i think are really strong and effective, but the work in them isn't very remarkable.  the abilitiy to be a good illustrator and the ability to make a good portfolio are totally different things.  and if what you want is to look at people's work for comparison or examples, then what you want is the former.  if what you want is to think about how best to present your own work, what you want is the latter.

Aerithflower ( ) posted Sun, 03 August 2008 at 7:23 AM

yes thanks cobaltdream.
well im only new to 3d programs and am still learning.
I just simply want to browse not for comparison really just for to look at other artists work.
I'm not really sure what you mean by sites that are usable. Do you mean for ideas?
I'm not wanting examples really.
Could you give links to the sites that you find really strong and effective?
Thanks!!

ok!  i finally have time to reply.

by usable i mean that people visiting find it easy to use.

for instance, i love Flash and have used it since version 3 or 4 and ActionScript 1.  i'm also very familiar with its drawbacks.  you need visitors to have a specific version of the Flash player, anything in ActionScript 2.0 and lower generally didn't play well on a Mac (it was a resource hog), and just in general, lots of people hate it with a passion.  Google only recently acquired the means to crawl it.  no one can bookmark a specific piece, and back and forward in the browser not only don't work, but if someone doesn't think and presses back, they will be forced to navigate to the same place they left if they want to continue on the same path.

an all Flash site can be very useful when you want to set a mood or you are serving a specific audience it will impress.   or incorporating true interactivity (which means visitors can actually do something they enjoy with the site, not just click a button and have something happen).  or if you're just making a site for fun (a vanity site).   it is not great if what you do is still illustration and all you did with it was make stuff fade in and out and slide in and out.  in return for pretty trivial presentation advantages, you lost your ability to be found, created some hostility to your site and yourself, and generally made it harder for people to get to your work.  and that's assuming you created an interface in Flash that's as usable as your standard HTML nav bar, which is uncommon in portfolio sites.

Bard Computer Science - not a portolio, but a good example of a richly designed interface that isn't Flash
N.Design Studio
sThig Illustration - iirc, this artist actually starts with Poser renders for reference.
digital art by henning ludvigsen - the interface is a bit hard to read, but the portfolio has a good structure.  each image has notes, comments, a detail image and a process image.  it's a great example of a portfolio meant to establish the owner in the community.  it's also a creative use of Wordpress.
