Its another niche of the market..
Bryce has quite some serious technological limitations. A lot of pro's fail to see that good art isnt defined by the technological advancement of their tools. Ofcourse all those tools do allow them to do things we brycers can not, some of them subtle, others not so subtle. But that doesnt mean we cant make good art.

That's exactly what those who already have want you to do. Only then will they will feel your art is deserved of any notice.

The guys a bit of an elitist. From a production and efficiency view in the cgi/vfx biz, he has a point as Rayraz states. From an artistic pov he is totally wrong. 3DW, in response, goes on to state that they serve a wider market than just a "pro" clique (my summary).
Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!
The art is not limited:
Screen and brush,
The tools for escupír,
The glues and paper.
The art is not limited to mouse, the digitalizadora table, to no digital tool…
Art if makes with imagination and feelings and the use of any extension of our body is only one complement.
But however, our necessary Bryce beloved of important improvements if to want to survive in this new and different world.
Everything that does not evolve dies and with the Bryce it is not different.
The Important one is to be excellent for uses who it.
Long life to the Bryce.
The fact that he said in the 3D world neither of these are relevent doesn't have anything to do with being elitist, but it does have a lot to do with knocking a pretty decent piece of software, that, with the proper use and care, can actually create a comparable scene with many of the higher priced apps around today.
Like I said, it's laughable, because instead of concentrating on his art, he feels the need to whine about valuable space been taken up by a magazine that has always shown a good balance with apps. I think we should all dig out our bestest Bryce scene and send it for inclusion into the magazines monthly gallery. That should shut him up.

LOL, It's ok AS, it was a sarcastic statement. For a start, the learning curve for such apps is beyond my patience.
It's like Mike Halverson always said in response to derogatory comments about Imagine3D's functionality....It's not the tool but the artist that makes art...I guess that tool[the one who wrote that bit of garbage quoted] has zero artistic ability and expects the app to create art for him/her/it automatically.. ...

3DW have been very nice and put some of my images on various cover CD's - All Bryce ones too.

I'd like to see more there though... I missed yours.
When Bryce 6 came out, someone at 3Dworld reviewed it and gave a representation of what it could do. Suffice to say that the image made Bryce 6 look extremely cheap and nasty. I remember writing an email about it, explaining that Bryce can do so much more, but never got a reply. I only buy the mag for the freebies... the content of the mag is not something I spend a lot of time over.... unles i'm waiting for a render.
I wish there was a mag just for Bryce... but I guess, it wouldn't make much money since we seem to be a dying breed. Daz3D would really have to wow the critics with version 7 to give it more credibility, but I guess that'll never happen. I suppose we're lucky to see it last as long as it did. However, I'll still stick to it, I love the app.
If it was'nt for the free or cheap 3d programs then we would only have a small number of artists using very expensive software and not the diverse, creative and supportive community we have now regardless of app. I'm with AS and bobby on this one, it is "*elitist c--p".

WHO said Kiwi's can't Fly ?????
I agree, 3D World is a great magazine and team. In my dealings with them, they have never shown any bias towards what software a person uses, just the end result.
Fun/cool people too, lol...I remember when I got the Editor in the very ghetto downtown LA., during Siggraph '05. Jim will never share a cab with me ever again, I'd bet. ;oD

Maybe instead of "Elitist B.S." I should have said "High School B.S.", lol.
(I use that term for situations that are imo, juvenile)
And, to hammer that point even further, now that I have had a taste of "Hollywood" and sat in a room filled with millions of dollars of high end PC's and four dozen industry professionals...a lot of them had the same story of starting with pov-ray, blender, poser, bryce, vue, etc.
Point is, they could care less what anyone started with, or even currently used at home.

I wish there was a mag just for Bryce.
-It would probably have to be a bit more broad than just Bryce. Perhaps a mag for all "landscape generators" (bryce, vue, terragen, mojoworld, etc)
Daz3D would really have to wow the critics with version 7 to give it more credibility, but I guess that'll never happen
-I know I have been out of it for a while, has there been some official word from DAZ about not having a version 7.0? Or, at least not for a long while?

From stuff I've seen recently I'd say B7 was well into the testing/developement stage.

My ticket for Animating a Mat in Bryce 6.1 which stopped working after 5.5 is finally being looked at however someone by the name of Folypro was quick to say that the issue was old and the ticket was going to be closed. However a few others chimed in with me to mention that the function is still broken.
I submitted the ticket a several months ago.
@Ray....well I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you....

...no matter, in about 11 days I'll be able to grill them face to face at Siggraph, lol.

On the first point, that would be acceptable.
On the second point AS, I was accentuating on the Daz3D would really have to wow the critics with version 7 rather than version 7 never appearing.
There has been no news about anything to do with version 7 for a long time. I though Daz3D were concentrating on another update for 6. But I guess I am a mushroom.
Well, I DO remember DAZ saying it would have given Bryce 6 a boost with Carrara technology, (i.e. the Tree Lab) but just there wasn't enough time in between aquiring Carrara and the release of B6.
Well....there has been enough time now....
I think it is beyond high enough time they take everything under "Carrara 3D Express" and place it under Bryce's hood. There is just a slight difference in the number of Bryce users vs how many are using Carrara 3D Express...

The challenge is fitting it into the bryce interface... maybe they should just start assuming people have at least 1024*768 resolution and slightly revise the way in which the interface is organized.

Yeah, THAT is a f-ing GREAT point, lol. One that I keep forgetting.
We need to Bryce to have a resizable GUI. Meaning whenever we go into said Tree Lab or the Mat Lab, etc. they need to fit whatever you may have your Monitor resolution set at.
It was all great when I was using B4 and had my monitor set to 800x600, lol. But, now my default is 1280x960 and I feel like I am looking at the various Libraries and Labs through the wrong end of a pair of binoculars.

I think Iread somewhere, wikipedia even, that Daz has only one software developer dedicated to Bryce. Who also is responsible for daz studio. So the chances of us getting a version 7 seems unlikely.
http://joevinton.blogspot.com/
Yeah, DAZ is not a huge company like Adobe. The massive optimization of the Bryce code some years ago was outsourced to another company who threw tons of guys at it all at once.
Wishlists will always be long novels of every attribute that exists under the sun (and a few that don't). That's just the nature of a free-for-all wish-o-rama.
The best thing to always do is to serve what's best for the program, not the hordes of individual users. Narrow it down to just 5 major and 5 minor updates, and then hopefully you can get 3 of each of those done. ;o)

The modo tut content is nice that I downloaded from that issue's site. The mag won't be on store shelves in the US for another three weeks.

back to the original point...I wonder how many of pinhead and his friends just up and said "I'm going to be a professional artist" got the top-of-the-line stuff, and just immedieatly did pro-level work right off the bat...;) Orbital...you don't count...;) j/k...;)
It's the same situation with these magazines; if you don't rope newbies into the field with free and easy software, how are you going to upgrade them to the 'spendy' stuff later? The fact that you can do pro-level work with easy and 'intro' stuff may have escaped them...;)
I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit
anahl nathrak uth vas betude doth yel dyenvey..;)
Ha ha, although I've had sucess with Bryce and got paid, when I compare my work to the pro's both here and on high end sites I feel way behind. Bryce is seen as a hobbyist tool, and the price reflects that, but I've seen enough Bryce work that goes far beyond what a lot of people using mega bucks software can create. It shows that if you have the talent it doesn't matter what you use. Pele the greatest footballer (soccer coughs) used to play with a ball of rags tied up with string when he was a kid.
This guy from 3d world is purely ignorant in my book, but sadly we will always have to live with the snobs.

Ok, so theres a free version of Hexagon 1.2 on the cover disk of issue 107. But what of the contents?
Something just for all us Bryce users...(and Poser users) you have to laugh at it though, because it's funny in warped sense.
I was reading the letters page when I came across this.
I'll quote just a couple of lines:
'Hobbyists read your magazine, but Bryce and Poser?..... in the 3D world neither of these are relevent. When a magazine such as 3D world covers outdated and underused products like these, it becomes less of a commodity in a professional sense....'
