I'm relatively new to Poser, and I've only just begun customizing it with characters downloaded from Renderosity Freestuff. I was delighted recently to download an ultramorph woman 3 by Confusius who not only has many morph targets on her face, but is actually able to smile on the right and left side of her mouth independently-- now that's how you make an expressive face! I've also seen mentions of a character called Michael-- if I understand correctly, this is a character you can get from Zygote. What I'm wondering is, who are the most versatile and useful characters? Not necessarily the characters with the most morph targets, but the ones who can be changed into the widest variety of realistic character faces, and the ones who can be made the most expressive?

Michael and Victoria are both retail models from Zygote/Daz 3D (www.daz3d.com). Theyre much more versatile and expressive than the default poser models, and require much less postwork -- meaning when you pose them they have less joint anomalies and sharp edges. They do cost quite a bit if you take into consideration that you need their clothing packs (standard poser clothing wont fit them). Your best bet is to pick up their CD compilations, which include their clothing pack, texture map and hair at a discounted price. Id go for Michael first, since the P4 nude male isnt very versatile. However, if you dont want to spend the money right away then there are plenty of free items here on Renderosity that can get you started. Grab Dr. Morpheen by Syyd, the best texture out there for the P4 male. It also comes with quite a few morphs built in. Best P4 nude female texture is, in my opinion, Staale's Vickybuster series. I used the default poser models and Eve (available from Morph World) for almost a year before I scraped together enough money to buy a little collection of Daz3D models.

Just noticed an error in my earlier post, the Vickybuster textures are actually a combined effort by Staale and SnowSultan.

Without having the funds (or motivation, much less) to nab Vicki or Michael, I've found that you'll mostly want a really good set of morphs and magnets for whatever model + clothes you decide to use. May I suggest the Eve model? She's quite wonderful. Check out the link for all of the above. Textures and bump maps also can make all the difference as far as realistic-looking models as mentioned.

DEFINITELY get Staale's textures http://home.online.no/~kjellil/Index.htm Click on the All Downloads link but also scroll down a bit and get his Bodymorpher Beta 1 Posette. Also make sure you pay a visit here http://www.interq.or.jp/red/pandt21/ and be sure to check out the links as well. Linlin, Nene or young Nene by Yamato all have new joint parameters allowing for almost perfect posing with no joint cracks and in some cases even smoother posing than Victoria. Alternately the Eve model for posing and realistic genetalia is tops.

Michael and Vicky 2 at Daz are brilliant. Vicky 2 has incredible morphs and loads of them. There are not so many items in freestuff for them, but the items that are for sale, both here and at Daz, most are of exceptional and professional quality. It really depends if you want to spend money or not. Poser is as addictive as a drug. BTW, Daz are doing a $15 discount on Michael at the moment if you get Syyd's 'Kane' texture and morph set for Michael.
