Subject: Hair fit vs. hair

santicor ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2008 at 6:37 AM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 6:12 PM

hi
I am really not so good with the whole hair thing....just recently geting into it....I wanted to try a simple freebie hair for V4, as it is taking me some time to learn the ins and outs of growing hair in the hair room.
What I am not sure of is: what is a hair "fit" ? I was hoping to actually find a conforming prop which is the hair itself  , you know,  the whole package.
Does anyone have a simpoe freebie hair  for V4  that basically consists of the hair itself and a simple texture?
I was hoping for a sophisticated , hair pulled up type of thing.
Thanks

There are three (and a half) types of hair...

Dynamic, which you know about. Conforming (CR2CRZ), Hair (HR2) and for the half -- prop hair (PP2/PPZ). Conforming, Hair and Prop hair are generally made to fit a specific figure. A Hair Fit file will adjust the hair to fit another figure. Depending on the hair model itself, you can sometimes adjust the X,Y or Z trans along with scaling to get the hair situated on the figures head and then parent the hair to the head and lock.

There are a few free hairs available for V4, just recently Neftis was offering August hair here in the forums (search on posted by user Neftis), Renella hair is still in free stuff here as is Lacques hair (designed for David, but I believe I saw a V4 fit file also in freestuff).

I can't think, off hand, of a sophisticated updo that's free for V4

As already stated, most hair can be used across all human figures with some tweaking of the XYZ scale and trans dials.  I have had a few instances with V4 that I wasn't able to fit the hair because of the shape of her head. I guess I could have tried using magnets, but I didn't feel like it, so I just picked a different hair.

Here is a thread that has all kinds of links to free hair and hair related items. Scroll through for updates.

So long as "Matt" is short for "Matilda" then we're good to go!  LOL

getting back to the whole "home gown" hair thing:

I was wondering what the sequence would be( If I can do this)
to create a conforming hair prop as the final end product of my work in the hair room.
I figured I should

  1. grow and style the hair in the hair room
  2. creat the MAT package for it
BTW this, I think, is an awesome tutorial on creating MAT files:
    http://www.muskateergraphics.com/tutorials/MATtutorial.html
  3. apply the MAT to the hair strands on the figure.
  4. I suppose there is then some way to slect the finalized hair and save it all as a prop.
...sound about right? ( I am not woried about having this exist as dynamic hair, I am just looking to have a hair prop that I can use on my different characters)
    Thanks
