Subject: Ocean Waves for Vue 6?

eclipse245 ( ) posted Mon, 11 August 2008 at 6:16 PM · edited Sat, 19 October 2024 at 8:25 PM

How would I go about making large ocean waves, that you would see in real life during a storm of some sort.

I woud really like to know how this is accomplishable.

Thanks,

Peter

You could take the simple option and get Monsoon's Sea Vue from 3D Commune

Well, you could use Poser....(be sure to check out the videos)

Although if Poser can do it, couldn't it be done better in Vue?

I don't really want to purchase Poser.

I really don't see why the defulat Vue can't do it. I might have to look into SeaVue.

 Hey, you asked....

Seavue is very cool but its for stills, not animation.  So long as you dont' mind inanimate waves.

Maybe e-On will have a water surprise tomorrow at Siggraph?

#1 what version of Vue are we talking about? For Infinite a look into the manual does the trick, there is a tutorial in there about animated ocean waves.

#2 the hard way is to create a terrain and apply a grayscale image to that that gives it the waves shape. You can create such grayscales even with a program (for Windows) called CausticsGenerator. Or you do it yourself - paint it in a paint program for example.

#3 What kind of waves are we talking about?

Gentle little ocean swells?  ...or giant rolling Hawaiian surf tubes?

Little ones are easy.  Its the big surf and foam that we can't really do yet.

I am using Vue 6 Infinite.

We are talking about giant waves that you would see in the middle of the atlantic during a storn.  They look like large hills, but they're water. No i don't want surf tubes, because those are usually seen near shore.

Ok, look into the manual that comes with Vue. All in there.
