Hi Guys I've Been working on an X version of the Ironman for the past 4 weeks. Still working on the joint restrictions and Shaders as well as a decent pose and scene. Everything was modelled in Amapi D7 and Carrara 6P.

Input much appreciated.

Very nice.  I would try and add a tiny amount of aging to the metallic textures so they look a bit more combat used and realistic. :)  Awesome work...

50parsecs ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2008 at 4:53 PM

Awesome work ZIKEO! Actually, I think your render is a nice trade-off between photo-realism and a comic book illustration style. :)

Very cool model! I love to see an animation!

I prefer this one to the 2008 movie Ironman, the "X" version seems stronger than the movie "Y" version, also in the movie, he is more burgundy and pale yellow, your black and gold also helps to make him seem tougher.

The comment abut aging the materials is valid but that depends on what you want to  use the figure for. Z, I know you have resisted becoming a vendor so far but I reckon this figure would be a huge hit and I believe he is suitably different to “Y” Ironman  so as you would not run into copyright problems. The wrist sabre’s are a real cool touch, are they retractable?

ZIKEO ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2008 at 1:38 PM

Thanks Guys
An animation is not out of the loop yet.

Tom,
I will probably make the Sabers retractable.
Also.
I'm not too sure what criteria people would expect of a model.
This one for example:-
Rigged - Yes
Shaders - Yes
Components / parts - 143
UV Mapped - NO
Textures - NO

This would most likely Drive Me MAD***!!!*** if I was to set about trying to UV map 143 parts.
There is a lot of wires on the edges.

As it stands ( + better Shaders ) would anyone be interested in parting with a few bucks?

Let me know guys, I'm interested.

ThomasMacCallum ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2008 at 2:09 PM

I know I would be, If you market it as application specific you do not need UV mapping in my opinion. In the Daz market, Phil Drawbridge is selling a model that is not in any way rigged but does have procedural shaders.

I hope you do not mind Z but I just did this:

I'd say there would be definite interest, with Ironman all hot right now and at least two more movies slated.  Someone else might actually be interested in make the UV map and textures and sell it as an add on.

I would just be happy with a basic version of what you have so far.
I'd be happy with like a model kit.... here are the parts put it together your self!

This looks great!

Does it use props parented to a Poser figure or is it its own model? If they were props, you might be able to get more Poser users interested and thus up your cash flow potential. Also, if you offered alternate helmets/gauntlets/accessories so that no one could accuse you of directly copying a copyrighted character, that might help as well.

Very exciting!

Joe-B-Wan ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2008 at 12:23 AM

It definitely looks cool. I would certainly wishlist it if I couldn't afford it right away.

There is some good news to this though.
I had already decided not to go down the route of trying to sell the Armour X, as I too think it is to risky.
What with copyright and plagiarism.
I'm going to spend another week or so doing some basic UV maps of the 140-odd parts.
He is only made for Carrara.
So I'm going to perhaps upset some when I say.

What a great sign off Z, thanks for sharing armour X If its going to be UV mapped there will be no end the the different looks for him - and I thought you would just add anything goos! I think I will take on texturing of X as a little project of my own.  Does anybody know, does Jeff_R work for Daz or is he just interested? Anyway it will be fun to see what happens next.

BTW - this works WONDERFULLY! The use of nulls as joint points is great!

Attach the parts to nulls, lock in relative distances and you can make all kinds of mechs, bots and other rigid part figures. Genius. Pure genius.

AND doing this allows people who use Bryce to take advantage of it's more controlled lighting, materials and atmosphere. I'm doing a test render right now.

ZIKEO ( ) posted Wed, 13 August 2008 at 12:41 PM

Hope you succeed NyGuy.
Thanks for the compliment Ikyoto.

Once I'd seen the tut on the daz site for making a handle moveable on the side of a box.
I thought - joints - robots - mech STUFF!!

I've done another test on a model of a Bond Bug that I modelled a while ago.
Door opens, wheels go round.
What more can you ask for?

Thanks again guys and looking forward to some Nice Renders!

Hey Zikeo - I left you a message over at Animotions, but assuming you don't visit there too often. I am currently making this fantastic iron man replica into a conforming set of armor for Michael 3 for Poser. Send me an email, and I can send you a copy when its ready - Just making a few modifications since Poser likes to make some of your meshes appear disjointed and broken (They look fantastic when rendered though), but should be done by early next week. Then you can share it, or tell me to share it, your call.

Hi there Aremis2000,
I'm waiting for Helgard to get back to me on this thread

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2748401

As I don't have Poser.  I would like to see how people would tackle the Rig and Skin thing in Poser.
So I can see how different it is to Carrara and weather I would be purchasing it for future projects.
Maybe a mini tutorial type thread thing.
Your work on it so far looks pretty cool, and I did start to get a bit bored when it came to UV mapping the parts. (I have my own designs I should be working on etc)

Keep going Man,
There can always be more than one.
