Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 08 9:27 am)
Here are two links that you can try. The MCA one has a pretty significant selection of Inner Sphere and CLan Mechs as well as other sci-fi models. Robylon.com Mechwarrior Constructors Association (MCA) They're not in Poser format but they shouldn't be too difficult to convert. Nukem
I'm working on some Battletech style mechs that will be in the store . I am trying to get some ideas going for my store here but I am sick of Victoria characters and stuff like that and this is more my style . I am going to make these very cheap because I am only interested in making a little extra cash to spend here or at Daz . If you have any ideas about what you would like let me know.
I'm into the mecha genre myself. Stuff that I'd like to see in commercial mecha models: 1) Semi-detailed to detailed cockpit. Doesn't have anything fancy, but if your model has a place for a pilot to sit in, it greatly increases the value and usefulness of your model. 2) Weapons packs for customizability for the user of your model. This way, non-modellers can enjoy mixing and matching load-outs depending on their needs... 3) Including small details like maintenance access hatches and missile launch bays that open (etc) is a real nice touch and shouldn't be too difficult to do. They could be done as morph targets for various body parts... 4) External damage packs... Melted armour plates, armour plates punctured by ballastic weapons, destroyed weapons etc... Perhaps make them switchable using Poser geometry switching techniques. That way you can include things like destroyed equipment or limbs within the model and the user can turn them on or off as needed. 5) Support equipment model packs. A mecha can't operate in the field without maintenance and re-supply. Including things like repair or construction gantries, munitions loading equipment like forklifts, towing vehicles and the like would be wonderful. I've got tonnes of other ideas if you're interested. :-) Nukem
Hey Nukem , I like your ideas . I'm not really sure I have the talent to pull off some of them but I like the ideas . I might get to doing cockpits when I get the hang of modeling better but right now I am just wanting to create stand alone mechs , robots and whatever else I can think of. As far as price well I am not concerned with making a fortune I just want to get something in my store and a few things in free stuff how does $5.00 sound . I see my store items as being for those (like myself) who don't do this for a living and are on a budget so everything I put in my store is going to be cheap as far as the price . Any way , the figure I am working on now is coming along well . When I get better at modeling I plan to release modular robots and mechs ( if I can make them work like I want) . What I had in mind was building the legs , arms , and other body parts as different figures that could be mixed and matched and parented to a central "chassis" . I have also thought about having "damage packs" on the figures as switchable geometry but I will have to experiment with the technique some more , my first try with it did not go so well ( the body part I was testing it on changed but refused to change back). I'm interested in any ideas you might have.
MarkM Yeah I had the same idea. I thought about doing a modular mecha kit for Poser where you can mix and match limbs, torsos etc... I didn't have the character making experience or the modelling experience back then so I put the idea on the backburner. It sounds like a good project to take on. Other modellers can contribute their own limbs and equipment on an ongoing basis. EllPro You can import the .3ds and .dxf format models into Poser, export them from Poser to Wavefront .obj format, then use the UV Mapper (if you have a PC) to make your own texture templates for texture mapping. Hey EllPro , thats what I had in mind for some free figures . I have always been a big fan of Battletech even if I don't play anymore . I want to make a few mechs mainly for my own use but I would post them in the free stuff because of copyright concerns . If you have a specific mech you would like me to build what I need is good source material ( I don't have the books anymore) . I have two mechs I want to build right now one is a Hatchetman and the other is the Madcat/Timberwolf . I have source material for both of these as well as the Vulture it's just a matter of figuring out the best way to make the body parts bend like they should without looking strange . It's going to be alot easier to make the ones that are less organic looking.
EllPro , I use truespace 5 for the modeling work so if I have source material to work from it shouldn't be much of a problem to build a figure with the proper groups in order to use Poser to make a figure . The one problem is the joints that are supposed to bend on Battlemechs in most pictures probably wouldn't work in real life so I will have to be creative . Also , I have gotten pretty good at hacking Cr2's to make the joints bend , twist , and go side to side without affecting the other parts so it's a matter of choosing which joints to do this way and which one to give normal joints . I don't think I ever used a Locust , my favorite was a custom Hatchetman that I called a Headhunter . I believe that in our local group , I had 20-30 kills with this mech . Anyway , let me know if you have a mech you would like and I'll add it to the list (so much to do so little time ) I'll try to post a preview of the one I'm working on later . It's still very much a work in progress so don't judge it to badly.

I'm looking for Bettletech or Macross style mecha. I have the ones that can be found in Freestuff, but I need more (I see an addiction brewing here). Can anyone help??? Know of any sites? I'm doing my rendering in Poser4, so they'll need to be a Poser file (Cr, pp) or one of the importable ones (3ds, obj). Thanks!
