Subject: Just thinking out loud...

I in the middle of trying to learn CS3 better and was thinking the only program Adobe doesn't really have right now is a 3D program...

Photoshop and Illustrator do it to a small degree, but I'm wondering if it's in the works. Makes me think that Carrara would be a great addition to the family...not that I don't like DAZ...

Just thinking outloud...lol..

Sorry but hope that Adobe never get Carrara! daz is doing a excellent job in Carrara but will take sometime to it be in really good shape. But I love Carrara a lot!

I agree. Adobe handles their products and customers well, but DAZ is doing fine with Carrara.
For one thing, DAZ understands figure import and figure creation, where adobe is so very 2D.
C6 works seamlessly with photoshop as long as the images are saved in the right formats.

Yes, I think that Daz still a little lost with Carrara in hands. I think that they didnt know what Carrara was when they get it... now in version 6.5 you can see that they are doing a good job even with little team working in the developement. Lets wait for version 7 what it will be.

Adobe has had the chance to get in to 3D in the past. They actually have licensed code from Eovia for use in Photoshop. Now comparing Adobe to DAZ ? Adobe is a publicly traded company worth $24,198,781,026. Adobe holds a monopoly as far as prepress, 2D graphic, Web, Photography and Illustration goes. This aside of their video and post production tools. They own Postscript and PDF, and now Flash. They cater to the professional market. DAZ has a nitch within a nitch market. This market is so small that Adobe would only lose focus if it attempted to get in to it. Not to mention that Carrara, for all it's wonderful tools, is at best considered semi-pro package, and as of recently, it's turning more in to a hobbits tool. Adobe does cater a bit to the hobbits, but their main meat and potatoes is the professional market.

I did want them to pick up Painter at one time. I would much rather see Painter under Adobe then under Corel, but to each is own. I also would have preferred to see Eovia flourish as opposed to this DAZ merger, but you can't always get what you want.

I think if anything Modo would be a better fit for Adobe then Carrara. But if Adobe wanted to be in this market, they probably would have already done something about it. Just look how they gobbled up their only competition with the acquisition of Macromedia.

if adobe bought carrara, they'd hafta raise the price to $999 to pay for their
workers' monster homes and hummers :roflmao: CS3E has a rudimentary
3d function that can cut as much as 0.5 second outta the workflow of a 3d user,
but if they hype it enuff, it may get various 2d users to buy maya or max or
even carrara.

That just it, CS3 3D feature is for the 2D designer, not the other way around.

Carrara is easy enough to use and has the options to save alpha and other info in some image formats. I like its rendering and staging features better than its modeling features. (The modeling room isn't bad, but I find other programs work much better for my particular workflow.) If importing a model, slapping on materials, and lighting is your thing - it's hard to go wrong with Carrara. (It's definitely not as confusing or clunky as some other apps in this regard.) And if you model things, but aren't all that fond of Carrara's built in modeling room - it covers a decent variety of import options such that it works well with other 3D apps.

As for Adobe acquiring Carrara, I'd rather that they not. As much as I'd like to see more investment in Carrara's development, I wouldn't care much for having such a neat program become unaffordable for those of us who are just getting by.

I think that Adobe can have an eye in Lightwave now... the Lightwave Rendition for Photoshop is something a little strange since Newtek dont have created a Rendition for use in others softwares as an alternative render engine... lets give some time to Daz know better what they have in hands.
