Well i'm a little new to poser  but have come across a few outfits I would like to make different colors and textures for.  How do it get started please?

Hi Ptrego, how deep do you want to go?

How are you at applying nodes to proper PoserSurface channels within the materials room? --that will be your first step.

If you are familiar with that, the next step in its simpliest form is import a 1024X1024 picture with a design in it, then render.

If you want to place stuff  say a logo, neck trim, zippers, etc,  in exact places then we will go with UVmapper.

If you don't know how to work with UVmappers:  we can start there:  Jan

You also want to make sure the clothes are UV mapped well, which often doesn't happen. Clothes are just cylinders of cloth wrapped around the arms, legs and torso. Hint, hint.

I have some tutorials - Heidi's Texturing for Beginners would probably be the best place to start.

Edited to add: I'd suggest you lay off remapping to begin with; keep it simple. Do some texture work using the existing map, since remapping will give you extra complexity should you want to redistribute your work. Also, doing that will give you a better idea about why remapping may sometimes be necessary, and the areas that need attention when it does.

I don't know much about uv mapping and quite frankly can't seem to find the maps for the clothes I have.  My ultimate goal is to make unique textures for specific clothes to redistribute.  I seem to be a little unclear on how to take a texture from PSP to poser, What kind of file does it have to be or am i using that texture as a jpg in the materials room?  I think I'm one of those people who has a little information, maybe to much which is what might be confusing me.

Thanks for the tutorial link.

JPG is what you want, to be used as an image map in the material room. Take a look at the materials of some existing clothing to get a feel for how it works.
