Subject: Why are all my gallery images being deleted daily?

Omniel ( ) posted Wed, 20 August 2008 at 7:25 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 7:49 AM

Why are all my gallery images being deleted daily?

They contain nudity, but not pornographic, and they are constantly being deleted every day, I have no thumbnails at all, and when I look at them by browsing in the submited galleries they have no tumbnail, the default one for images containing nudity, would it kill an admin to tell me why they are deleting all my work, every day?

It's getting rather annoying, when I am following all the guidelines, and still get deleted. the first image I uploaded was my fault, but the last 3 times, they are deleted without a reason, they have proper warnings, and no thumbnails.

Hello,

All of your images contain nudity in the thumbnails. As per our thumbnail guidelines, if your image contains nudity you cannot use the "auto generated" thumbnail since that is only a smaller version of the full size image. So if your full size image contains nudity then you need to create your own thumbnail without nudity to upload with your image.

You were sent an email and sitemail from the team member about this issue and giving you instructions on how to resolve this and get your images back in the gallery.

To learn more about  Renderositys sitemail system, please see the link below from our FAQ/Help area .  Also be sure and check your email as one was sent to the email you have registered on our site.

Thanks,

if I don't add myown thumbnail, will it automatically generate one? the last time I uploaded my images, I didnt upload thumbnails.

Yes it will automatically generate a thumbnail, and if your image contains nudity, your thumbnails will contain nudity as well.

I had the same thing happen to me when I first started here, took me awhile to understand that even though I checked no thumb it still made a default thumb of my upload. So what I started doing is just made a blank thumb and kept it for all the pics in the future that had nudity since I didn't want to make a thumb each time I uploaded a pic.  Worked for me.  :)

I created a custom thumbnail template for these types of images (violence/nudity) when I want to upload such. This way I can identify the image and content issue in MY style of thumb.

Hmmm. Did they change the policy about that? I thought that the thumbnail had to  reflect part of the image it is representing and that if there is nudity in the image, there were 2 choices:

  1.  Use a portion of the image that has no nudity in it to make the thumbnail. Hence the large number of legs and heads in the gallery.

  2. Use the Renderosity content advisory thumbnail found at this link:

http://www.renderosity.com/news.php?viewStory=13472

The last I heard people weren't allowed to make their own default nudity thumbnail.
Can someone tell me if the policy has changed? Because if it has I would like to do that for some images where I just can't find an interesting part of the image to use in a thumbnail, and a pretty "nudity" thumbnail would be better.

My template complies with all the requirements published and has been used for quite a while now. There seem to have been no complaints.  If you want to take a look and tell me your opinion, i would be more than happy to take feedback.

That for the help :)

just waiting for my images to be taken off hold, sent thumbnails to a renderosity person.

Acadia ( ) posted Fri, 22 August 2008 at 11:06 AM

Thanks. I know the policy and even had to enforce it at one time.  But back then people weren't allowed to make their own generic  "nudity" thumbnails. They either had to use a part of the image that didn't have nudity in it, or use the generic Renderosity one.

Has that now changed?

I personally think your thumbs are fine, but I don't make or enforce the rules.
I'm just curious about when the policy changed that now allows people to make their own generic thumbs for nudity, and I'm assuming for violence as well, instead of having to use a non-nude or non-violent portion of their image or the default Renderosity one.

I've always been in favour of people being able to make their own generic nudity or violence censored thumbs, and if the policy has indeed changed, I would like to start doing the same for some of my future images.

I'm not sure the policy was ever the official thumbs only. I believe that was just a guidance and assistance if you couldn't find a way to comply on your own. This is what I was lead to believe at that time.

No, the thumbnail had to be representative  of the image you were uploading. Meaning that if there was violence of nudity, you had to pick a portion of the actual image that didn't have any violence or nudity in it, and use that part for the thumbnail. If you didn't want to, or didn't know how, you had the option to use the generic Renderosity one. The reason behind that was continuity in the gallery.
I just looked at the gallery thumbnail policy again, and it states:

Quote - We will allow the Renderosity generic "Content Advisory" icon.  Just right click and save to your hard drive, then upload in the slot for your thumbnail. OR make a proper thumbnail that is representative of your image, but doesn't show nudity/violence

The only thing that I can think of  as to why you have been allowed to make your own generic nudity thumb is that they are no longer enforcing that part of the thumbnail policy. Which IMHO is a good thing because if I have the nudity filter on I'd rather see pretty thumbnails instead of pages of generic "Content Advisory" ones.

If that is the case I would like confirmation from a staff member that it's acceptable to make our own generic thumbnails for nudity and violence, because I would like to be able to do the same for some of my future uploads.

Acadia, the Generic was allowed as a comprimise a few days after the TOS was changed... I just can't find the thread to quote for you.
