Subject: Is there a Poser related magazine and a technical question

art4me ( ) posted Thu, 28 August 2008 at 3:56 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 6:41 PM

Hi

I am using Poser 7, new user

Is there a Poser related magazine that I can subscribe to, I want a paper one not computer as I prefer to read a normal type of magazine.

Content can be 3D with Poser related articles in etc.

My technical question

When Poser starts it seems to hang for a few moments

When I want to shutdown poser the exit button does not work, I have to go to task manager and shut it down from there

My computer is a good one

Dual CPU 2.4 GHz

3 GB Ram

Large HD

Running Windows XP service pack 2

( incidentally Poser 7 runs OK on my laptop, just desktop that is difficult)

Laptop runs on Windows Vista

Any comment apprecated

Thanks

There's 3D World, but that covers all 3D, not just Poser.

If you are looking for a good Poser related read, I'd recommend Denise Tyler's book called 'Practical Poser'. It's usually my first port of call, along with this forum, if I'm stuck.

My Poser 7 has been behaving erratically ever since I installed SR3; however, not everyone is having those same problems so I'm wondering if a Windows update at around the same time is the cause.

Perhaps something with openGL. Make sure you have the latest driver for your video-chipset installed. Seems this is often the reason for several problems.

I have found that something becomes unfunctional in Poser, Carrara, Vue etc too.
Your problem may not be Poser specific.

Stuff you need to do first (stuff that doesn't involve money or removing and reinstalling etc.

-Have you
-- clean out the garbage in your internet browser file and history folder
-- wiped out unnecessary cookies-I just have four on my computer-rendo site is one of
                  them.
-- used a good computer cleaner like Clean Sweep.  Gets rid of junk in your registery,
temp, cache, etc. I clean mine several times a day
-- defragged your computer-I do mine once a week
--  turned off your computer for about 10 seconds?

I Would.

"Would you want a download or paper and ink form of a magazine?"

I would download, read online, receive in EMail, or subscribe for magazine. I hope some one is considering it.

David, if there was a Poser specific paper magazine out there. That was to me reasonably priced, I'd subscribe.

I'm afraid that when it comes to such things I too am a bit old fashioned and prefer a good magazine read via good ol paper and ink, as opposed to photons in a CRT.

If you can get an editorial staff thats willing to re write and correct my spelling and grammatical errors. I'd be willing to throw a bone or two up from the cellar.

I'd prefer paper and ink, but I'd download it. In a heartbeat.

Count me in for a print edition. Something I could take with me and read anywhere. I get a wee bit tired of looking at the screen. Wish I was good enuff to contribute.

A e-zine would be just fine!

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Fri, 29 August 2008 at 10:57 AM · edited Fri, 29 August 2008 at 11:01 AM

this one is a total no-brainer IMVHO.

  1. if they're already not reading the manual, why would they read an e-zine?
  2. if it's a free e-zine for download, they get what they pay for.
  3. if it's a pay e-zine, then it would immediately appear on the russian poser warez site and
the registration rate would be less than 0.5%.  and don't even get me started on what kind
of trojans would be packaged in the copy of the e-zine that 99.5% of readers would download
    from the russian warez site.
  4. if it's a pay hard-copy mag, i don't see where the start-up funds would come from.
the VCs may be greedy and gullible, but they know a tiny demographic when they see it.

Didn't Rendo publish an ink and paper magazine for about 6 issues a few years back? If I remember right it even included a CD or DVD. Apparently it didn;t last due to poor "walk up" sales in book stores and such... Of course times change, but Poser really is a small niche' and rather disliked by the "mainline" 3D crowds, so I'm not sure the sales woul justify the publishing cost of an ink and paper mag. Now a web-based e-zine is mostly labor so it's possible it might work.

yah i got one of the renderosity mags a few years ago.  it had some pretty simple tutorials and a whole lot of really nice art.  it felt good to look at something i was also involved in.  (i mean software i was using, not that i personally put anything in it.)

go that way really fast.

Got a couple of downloads of Forbidden Whispers e-magazine who have just moved domains by the looks of it to:
http://www.fwpublishing.co.uk/

They now do both e-magazine and regular publishing.  I will check out their newest August magazine but I was pretty impressed by the quality last time.
