i have finally figured out I really don't like this place anymore. it used to be a nice friendly open site, but now its come to be a micro-moderated, fry folks at the earliest opportunity place.

No loss. Its been one of my favorite places since its inception, but like most of the old timers, we slowly fall away.

You all have fun now, ya hear? and don't say too much or you'll get yourself slapped around.

I'll be downloadin my purchased stuff, and will bid you all a fond farewell. Too bad you mods take your shit so seriously.

I'll stick around long enough to read all your sobbing farewell messages to me.

Dave-So ( ) posted Mon, 25 August 2008 at 6:47 PM

i will say in all defense of those running the show here, I do say what I think, and sometimes it may be off base... no doubt about it, or not always thought out, and sometimes too general, and quite often right on the mark, and quite often it rubs someone the wrong way ... and that is the way it is in life. But all the political correctness, trying to tie down the place so all is just all clean and tidy like, is a bit much, especially on the web.

I'm pretty much a free minded person, and think that if a site is for creative people, it goes to all about it..the art, the talk, etc. , not holding it down for a few that need to have it all clean and churchy. If someone doesn't want to look at female natural made parts like god created, then they shouldn't be here...or at least not look at the galleries, especially with their kid on their lap or at work..simple as that.

same as in the forums...sometimes people say things off the cuff, maybe some like to troll a bit and get folks riled up, but now anything that appears to raise a little heat gets wacked. and when mods start throwing around legaleese to avert the flow, or maybe an incorrect assumption, to intimidate or threaten posters with legal action or the possibility of same, or even hang the thought out there, that is plainly too much in my book. I don't even care if the accusations are true...when it comes to legal action in a forum, that is just a bit too much.

I haven't agreed with the direction this place has been taking in quite awhile, it's nothing new. And yes, I have left before...only once that I can remember, though, and I did come back, obviously, but my mouth has this totally shitty taste in it when I participate here, and I cannot hold my thoughts to myself, so its just better for everyone if I do not post anymore.

I still love a lot of the products in the store, and will more than likely still buy a few things from my favorite vendors, unless they can be purchased elsewhere. My gallery is already pulled.

nuff said.

So have a beer on me and adioski

Yeah the Libel accusation was a riot.  People around here just make up legal definitions wherever it suits them, even in instances where precedent has not even been established - many many self appointed experts here - in many fields....

I understand where Dave-So is coming from and how he feels. Some Mods here IMHO don't do anything when an issue is brought up and when they do something it is against the person who brought it to the attention of the Mods. I think what is the problem here is the TOS gets defined differently by each Mod and by the End users.
This is supposed to be a community based site right? Well I feel it is starting to be a more for profit site than what it used to be when it first started. Daz's forums are more friendly than they are here lately, even going through all their clutter to find anything useful among the 1000's of "commercial" threads there.
IMHO I think Dave-so  is going a little over board on the saying good bye, nothing against you, but saying good bye is not the way to handle the situation.  Doing this way sounds like you are whining ( I know I have done so in the past). Face the facts, the Mods should be called Gods and we should praise them as the almighty beings they believe they are. Cause sooner or later even Gods fall.

Y'all must not know what true "crack-down moderation (read: crack-heads moderation) " type  boards are actually like.  On such boards, a thread such as this one would have disappeared within minutes of the original posting, and the OP likely permanently banned out-of-hand.

The mods don't operate like that around here.......the mods around here are constantly striving for "balance" in their moderation.  They don't want to go too far over into instantly deleted posts / threads and automatic bannings / warnings: but nor do they want the forum to devolve into total verbal-knife-fighting chaos - which has been the death of other boards.  The problem is that whenever you are dealing with the public in large numbers, you end up having to deal with all sorts of individuals -- with all sorts of temperaments and personal preferences.  The members don't agree among themselves as to how things "ought to be done".  One man's "fair play on words", is another man's "deadly insult" -- and the mods are left to try to reconcile the two.  True, you can't let whiners take over & run the show: but at the same time, the security guards at your local shopping mall don't allow chain-whirling gang fights to go on in the parking lot, either.  So.......the mods seek after an elusive thing called "balance".  It's not easy for them to do.  And occasionally someone will get mad about it.

Frankly, I don't envy the mods their jobs.  It's tough.  And it's usually totally thankless.  Plus the mods can occasionally find themselves being outright personally attacked in the forums -- in postings and in threads which on a truly hard-moderated board would never, ever see the light of day.

It's nowhere near as "oppressive" here as some of y'all think.  But, hey -- if you want to participate on boards where regular, un-refereed knife-fights are the order of the day: then such boards exist: awaiting your addition to the noise.  Just watch your back.

*Personally experienced this here and couldn't agree more.
The real problem currently is that there really isn't anywhere else to go.  The other forums here aside from Poser are generally useless, The gallery is a joke - comment club running rampant, The Marketplace.....  well I just purchased another 45$ worth of items and one of the textures included in one is a very hard core sex scene.  (no it was not a sex related item) - not to mention the numerous copyright infringements that were within the textures.  Certain very popular venders can't seem to put together a single pose pack that doesn't change body shape, yet the marketplace is full of thier stuff.  Gogo testing.

But you can't say anything about this.  Nobody cares and all they will say is "If you don't like it leave."  Apparently Dave-So has finally decided that is what he will do.  Incredibly productive....

Quote - so are u saying the mods are more trolls than the trolls?

No.....I'm saying that the mod's job is -- in part -- to shut down the activities of the real trolls.

I've stated this elsewhere, but it bears repeating here: the term "troll" is one of the most over-used and misused terms on the internet today.  Most people who like to refer to others as "trolls" in the forums frankly don't have the slightest clue as to what a real troll actually is & does.

"Troll" is often used to mean:

1.  Someone who I can't beat in an open debate, so I'll call them names instead.
2.  Someone whose point of view doesn't jive with mine, so therefore they must be a "troll" by definition.
3.  Someone that I don't personally like.
4.  Someone who is too outspoken for my tastes.
5.  Someone who I think is too negative.

None of those things a "troll" make.  I suggest reading the article linked to above to learn what a true internet troll actually is, in today's web-culture context.  The true "troll" begins with a desire to inflict emotional pain on others for the sheer joy -- the "lulz" -- which comes from someone else's distress.  Of course, there are minor trolls and major trolls -- and medium-sized trolls.  The worst of them have no empathy whatsoever for anyone.

But a "troll" isn't a fellow forumite with whom you happen to have a strong disagreement......or who disagrees strongly with you.

Quote - whining... yes, that it appears to be for me. But like I said, this place makes me ill quite often, but I also have a hard time leaving. probaably casue I've been here since the beginning. My birth date doesn't reflect the fact I was here before then using a different name.

Your choice to leave or to stay is entirely your own.  And either choice is a legitimate one.......depending upon the underlying reasons.  And only you know those reasons for certain.

But hey, as they say: it's a free country.  We have the liberty to come and to go where we like, when we like.  But even in a "free" country: I still can't always do exactly what I like.........especially when my actions (or even my words) might affect others -- either directly or indirectly.

And there -- in a microcosm -- is the rub which the mods have to deal with every day.  Many people don't like police officers.  Until such time as they need one.

Absolutely. Around here you can get more than one of these (only slightly ammended from the original) and still be a member of nine years "standing". (bloody hell, that's nearly a frelling decade).
