Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 04 10:34 pm)
A few questions to clarify what is happening...
Are you running Vista? If not, ignore this para. I do not use Windows, but I understand you have to switch off some Vista security setting (UAM??) before you can install content into the Poser Pro progam directory.
What do you actually mean when you say "...still nothing"? Do you really mean that the installer does nothing? Or does it appear to load the files, but then you can't see them in the Poser library?
You said that you are selecting the main Poser Runtime folder to install into. You must select the PARENT folder of the Runtime folder that you want to install into. Otherwise the installer will create another Runtime folder within the Runtime folder that you selected, and the content won't be visible in the Poser library.
Sorry if none of this is any use, but it was worth a try.... :O)

Close Poser, go to the Poser folder, rename the application file from "PoserPro.exe" to "Poser.exe", install V4.2 as usual, then rename the application to "PoserPro.exe", and you're done.
Same with localized (non-english) Poser versions...

Just go to your PoserPro main folder create a new text document and name it Poser with an exe. extension.
No, that didn't work for me, either. I had the exact same problem blue did.
Yes, Vista, but I do have all the nannyware turned off.
I got sick of messing with it, as everything I tried, failed. Kept hitting the DAZ roadblock. Whoever decided it was a good idea to create that installer like that ought to be shot. I'm fully capable of understanding the why's and how's of it, DAZ, , so from now on just let me install my Posershit where I want, and IF I CHOOSE TO, I will copy/paste it all to where it "belongs". If it doesn't work, well, boohoo for me, but then I'll have only myself to blame. Choice. That's what life's all about. it's not enough everywhere you go there are so many wanting to take away that choice, I don't need ti from YOU, Mr. DAZ. OK?
In the end I just downloaded the new DAZ Studio, since it seemed the installer was REALLY wanting me to have it.
What a waste of hard drive space that is, IMNSHO. I mean, I'm sure it's great, wonderful, best thing to ever happen to the Poserverse and all that, but I just can't stand it.
Quote - One solution I've seen mentioned is to pick "DAZ Studio" as the installation type, which allows you to pick where to install without a check for a Poser installation.
i thought some of the files for DAZ were different to those for poser..?

i have to agree with the whole installer thing, it's quite annoying to be honest.
Quote - You did say you had Poser 7 also installed. If V4.2 is working in Poser 7, just have PoserPro use the P7 runtime as an external runtime. No need to install twice.
i had poser 7 installed, switched to pro because i had to do a HDD format so not there anymore but i've been thinking of doing that.. except that i wanted to have everything in the same place.
thanks for the help.. i'll post with any news if i get it to work.. i've also sent a ticket to DAZ support so lets see what they say.. i just hope it's not something like.. it's a poser pro problem so go ask smith micro or something like that...

Just relaying what I've seen several times in DAZ's forums.
On the "fake" Poser.exe issue, I found when I installed in for P7, I had to copy both Poser.exe and Poser.rsr before the installer would play nice (faking up both files should confirm that both are needed).

Hi, i've been trying to install v4.2 into poser pro but i can't seem to be able to do it.
it tells me it has to be in the main poser folder runtime instead of the other one i have.. so i direct it at that folder and still nothing.
i read here to create a txt file named poser.exe but even with that it seems to not install..
any ideas? could i install it with poser 7 then copy the runtime to the pro folder?
thanks
