Subject: Why doesn't V6 Infinite make an alpha of a *selected* object?

silverblade33 ( ) posted Wed, 01 October 2008 at 3:02 PM · edited Mon, 27 January 2025 at 8:24 AM

In previous versions of Vue, if you had an object selected, and you rendered, that object would be used as an alpha, but not with V6I, this has bugged me for ages

It just makes an alpha of EVERY object, grrr. So you have got to make a Multipass G-Buffer render to get alphas.
scratches head, puzzled
Probably just me not seeing something obvious, again ;)

Did you check "render only selected objects" in the render options?

Could you temporarily delete the other objects just to render the alpha of the object you want?
(as long as you don't need shadow silhouettes of the other objects on your desired object).

Sorry I can't test this now as I have a scene open I'm working on.....

synergy's right, just tested it, use "render selecetd object", and tick the "hide infinite planes from alpha" box.

 Hmm.... glad that worked but...

Looks like Multi-pass is really your best ticket.  It allows you to select from among all the objects which ones you want in the alpha.  And it supports occlusion shadows as well.  Saves as multi-layer psd with alpha.   I guess you need PS or else need to render separate files?  A bit of a hassle at first but it seems pretty clear and flexible.

Remember the Fifth Element?  "Multi-pass, multi-pass..."

Yeah only multi pass works
and her'es another PIA thing:
if you turn on G buffer, and render so an alpha of a chosen object appears on screen...you CANNOT save it, unless you select a save to multipass in the render dialogues, even though the damned image of the alpha's there on screen, you aren't allowed to save it, gah!!

Agree, dunno they don't implement the saving function in the redner window. Mustn't be too difficult, but hey, what do I know about coding?

silverblade33 ( ) posted Sat, 04 October 2008 at 5:50 AM

You can save by clicking on render window, but...unless g bufffer and alpha AND save to a file on disc is selected beforehand, you sitll can't save the rendered alpha on screen!
 jeesh.

So, youc an save an alpha of ALL elements rendered at any time,
but, to save an alpha of a specific thing you have GOT to have g buffer and save to a file done, before you render.

man that's a PIA!
