Subject: Vista Ultimate or XP Pro for Poser

tonyhag ( ) posted Fri, 17 October 2008 at 4:09 AM · edited Wed, 06 November 2024 at 2:04 PM

I am building a pc for my 10 year old son, mostly he will use it for games, but he also likes to play with Poser and so I am wondering which OS is most stable with Poser XP Pro, which I have used for ages or Vista Ultimate which I have never used.

Which do feel most comfortable supporting, Tony?

Well I have only used Vista home and it does seem to be a tad iffy with some of the games my lad wants on his PC such as Command and Conquer which he goes back to at least once a year.

I myself prefer XP pro, but I have never used Vista Ultimate and then which one do I buy the 32 or 64 bit version for use with Poser.

If you have Poser Pro AND you have the 64bit processor, you'll need the 64 bit version of whichever OS you choose. I don't have Vista... there are enthusiasts who swear by it as the next best thing and detractors who swear at it. It's only young as far as an OS goes. I would check with other users of the games you mentioned to determine what their mileage is with Vista.

As this is a fairly old thread, it's probably too late for my advice, but FWIW, I use 64-bit versions of both XP Pro and Vista on the same hardware.

Both are fairly stable these days, at least on my hardware.

But I find Vista64, while it has a few nice features, quite slow compared to XP64 Pro.
