Subject: OliviaG2 will make her Debut today

Dead_Reckoning ( ) posted Thu, 09 October 2008 at 12:54 PM · edited Wed, 22 January 2025 at 5:52 PM

It has been announced that G2Olivia will be released today.

It also sounds like she will have several dozen items for her being released at the same time.

Apparently If you have ever been a Passport Member, Presently or Past (When Olivia was 1st announced), OliviaG2 will be a free figure.

Talk about all the hype and hoopla about....wait a minute. That was about M4. Never mind.

E-Frontier mentioned her in passing and mentioned she would be released by Smith-Micro. Not a lot of hype and hoopla in comparison.

Yes - I have touched the stove a few too many times and gotten burned around here with the pre-hype.  But she is coming with fan fare - Over 70 products ready for release....

No prob, my download of Olivia is nearly finished (96%) so I'm sure I'm one of the first who can put his hands on her ;)

Well I've already found the following mess before I even opened Poser since I tend to edit the CR2's and PP2's before I put them in my runtime to fix calls since I move stuff around. Her clothing is all currently broken because it calls for the OBJ's and PMD's from the CHARACTER section of the runtime and not the PROPS section where they're located at! Here's the post I made at CP about it:

Quote -
Well before anyone screams about Olivia's clothes not loading properly, here's the fix:

Edit all the PP2 files so that her OBJ's and PMD's are called from their proper directory in the PROPS area of the runtime! They're currently called from the CHARACTER portions as follows:

morphBinaryFile :Runtime:libraries:Character:G2:MorningCasual:G2F_ Boxers.pmd
figureResFile ":Runtime:libraries:Character:G2:MorningCasual:G2F _Boxers.obj"

The fix is:
morphBinaryFile :Runtime:libraries:Props:G2:MorningCasual:G2F_Boxers.pmd
figureResFile ":Runtime:libraries:Props:G2:MorningCasual:G2F_Boxers.obj"

Also some of the OBJ's are called with a missing : between the first " and the word runtime!
Thanks for playin'!

Well Poser 6 and up users might not notice but I think Poser 4 or 5 and most certainly Cararra users will notice these misdirected calls for geometry. Vue might have issues with them as well.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Fri, 10 October 2008 at 1:34 AM

LOL, I downloaded her but can't use her untill I install all my software to my new computer. So far modo has been the only app to make it.

I was not very impressed with the extra content that was being sold.

Oh well, time to do some installing.

There are now four G2 females (OliviaG2, SydneyG2, JessiG2 and MikiG2) with the same bodyshape but with different heads, why dont they just release head morphs instead?

I found that Netherworks head morphs and RDNA Sydney morphs work fine with Olivia G2.

Sorry but no. There are Three G2 females and Miki 2.0 who is NOT a G2 female and who does not share clothes, textures or morphs with the G2 ladies.

Hi Lostinspaceman!

Ok I see now that Miki2 is not labeled a G2 female character, still the bodyshape is pretty similar to the real G2's even in wireframe mode.

No need to search. Just click the link I provided in my last post. It will take you directly to the Previous Passport members product deal which is priced at $29.99 but the price goes to Zero when you select the correct Passport deal you previously had.

I can understand the confusion as when the G2 figures were first announced, Miki G2 was included, but because she's shorter in stature than the rest of the G2 figures, she's not the same. I'm not sure how else she differs and to be honest, I've actually never tried using the G2 Ultimate Body morphs on her so if they just shrank her mesh down in size, who knows, maybe those morphs will work. but all the clothes need to be transfered with Wardrobe Wizard or Clothing Converter to be functional.

Please note ONE thing about Olivia from the readme: OliviaG2 totals --> 122500 polys      136977 verts

OliviaG2Hair      5271 polys          6962 verts

122500 POLYS? HOLY CRAP! V3 is 37000 polys. I think If I do portraits, I'll use Olivia. For all other renders I think I'll use other figures. Wow. It always pays to read the fine print.

I was wondering why I couldn't get Olivia for free even though I was a Passport member.
Anyway she looks very cute in the promos.

*"Please note ONE thing about Olivia from the readme: OliviaG2 totals --> 122500 polys      136977 verts"

I have not looked yet but could half those verts be the eyes, like the other figures. I seem to recall that the eyes of G2 figures were almost the same as the whole body. LOL.

If That is the case, try blackhearts eyes for better replacements.

JOELGLAINE ( ) posted Fri, 10 October 2008 at 7:08 PM

Maybe not. Here's the readme: rightEye      3000 polys          3004 verts
                                                         leftEye      3000 polys          3004 verts

That sound reasonable to me, given the size of the figure.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Fri, 10 October 2008 at 11:42 PM

3000 is more than normal. V4 eye is only about 2000. I remember one of ef figures was outragous in size. Maybe it's Miki that has that. I don't have everything installed to my new computer to check it out.

So, does Olivia represent an advancement in Poser rigging or is she just a repetition of the less-than-adequate standard that can never improve (with rare exceptions) until Poser upgrades its primitive rigging system?

A figure topping 100,000 polys is over three times denser than what is needed for quality in Poser.

I was shocked when I read the readme. That is why I posted that data. WOW, over 100,000 polys. I could use two Vickys (any number) and a couple of other figures in a scene!

Ok, I'm horribly confused about the whole G2 thing.  Is this the female character that shipped with one of the latest versions of Poser, or a whole different second party figure?

momodot ( ) posted Sat, 18 October 2008 at 4:52 PM · edited Sat, 18 October 2008 at 4:53 PM

I think that Sidney, Miki 2, Jessie 2, and Olivia all have the same body mesh but with heads that have mutually incompatible morphs and textures. The body mesh is nicely sculpted but the poly flow makes morphs and bends look terrible. The outrageous mesh density for an essentially un-deformable figure is an utter mystery to me... I just wish the Vickies had more realistic body sculpting/proportions and built in vulvas, they are very robust for morphing and deforming though.

GrandmaPaula ( ) posted Sun, 19 October 2008 at 12:13 AM

I have her and have  played with her a bit. She is pretty nice looking, but I do some a problem. When you bend her arms or legs, even just a little, they don't look right.

Other than that, not too bad
