Subject: Want to texture my wife. Need Tutorials!

Mogus ( ) posted Wed, 22 October 2008 at 11:57 AM · edited Sat, 25 January 2025 at 8:04 PM

I just got Poser 7 and would like to create textures for my family to do a 3D Family Portrait.

I really don't know what to do.

I've been looking online for tutorials but haven't really found anything specifically explaining what to do. I've also searched on these forums and some others but there just isn't anything really clear.

What female model should I use to start with pre-texturing? I tried using the Jessi model and edited her facial texture, but Poser wont let me change her facial features much so it's hard to make her look like my wife.

Is there a standard template to edit and put my wifes face into?
Is there a specific model I should start with for maximum range of options for customization of forms?
If I started with the basis poser female, how would I load the texture I create?

I REALLY want to learn to do this properly and my goal is for the best photo realism as possible.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys and gals.

  1. Well first of all have you learned to play with the dials?
  2. Do you know how to find your down loaded textures in your runtime folders.
Sorry about the questions but there is a method to my madness. I need to find out just how much you know.
  3. Do you know your way around Photoshop?
  4. And do you have a Digital SLR Camera?
We will go from there I will walk you threw the steps without using the Face room etc...in Poser that I dont feel you get good results..

..anything two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home...er...what was the question again?...;)

It really depends on what 'shape' your wife might be in. Some models might work better than others (and...like Barbie...some of the proportions are waaay off real people...;)

With a lot of dial spinning, you might get the shape.

Then you have to go on to the actual textures. Getting eyebrows, lashes, and lip colors just right could take some work.

but once you have that done, you'll be on your way. Actually, the job you've described is pretty advanced, especially out of the box. Still, you never know.

My wife is hot to be honest. heh The Victoria model will do fine to match her build, it's the face that I'm most interested in.

Yes, I know Photoshop pretty well, and Poser, I used to use years ago but completely forget everything since then so I'm starting over.

I had a tutorial at PoserPros on how to create textures from photographs, and I think someone made a pdf of it that I have on file somewhere. I'll look in my archives over the weekend and see if it's anywhere to be found.

Well okay here is what I do!  I take and Image from the front and from the side and a close up of the eyes I have a Canon Rebel XTI and It Works great!! Be sure not to shoot it with a on camera flash. the washes out the skin tones.. the best posible scenereo is to use studio lighting.. if the is not available,  use outdoor lighting I found that a overcast day or partly cloudy day works best so again you dont get that overexposed texture... Okay sorry I tend to ramble on..
Okay then I take one of the existing textures and use it as a template from face for V4.  I like to use Marja or Erica they work great . I open it up in Photoshop. I Take my face Image from front and the sides and start to spread out the image over top of the other texture. this takes a bit to get the hang of it but once you have learned it,  there is no turning back..IT IS THE BEST WAY!!! trust me I have done it a few times..Also rember to make your bump maps.. This is to achieve the best and realistic results.. I am a photoshop Artist by trade and found to be the most accurate way  at least it has worked for me..

Artposer

Your method sounds very interesting, could you create a tutoral and make it for those who have basic knowledge of photoshop 7 etc. I have tried to spread out my image like you have discribed but with little success so I am interested.

Thanks Rowlando

By the way I didnt mention that your model should have thier mouth and eyes closed just like the textures do for easy layout method so you can line up the holes lol.....and Have them pin thier hair back as well..Also shoot thier profile so you can put the facail image as a background that will help you model the face... Sorry about some of my mispelling here guys I missed that day in school.Maybe Render should add a spell check LOL or I should just learn how to spell..Oh well lol have a great day..
