Subject: Using DAZ only product in Carrara

Klebnor ( ) posted Sun, 26 October 2008 at 9:58 AM · edited Tue, 21 January 2025 at 11:04 AM

I bought the fireplace cabin at DAZ and didn't notice that it said "DAZ only".  I tried to load the .daz file into Carrara and I got an error message saying that I didn't have DAZ installed.  I don't use DAZ, so I don't have it installed.  Does that imply that if it found the DAZ executable (ie if I installed it), then the building would load into Carrara?  I don't want to install DAZ just for grins, but if it would enable this, I would do it.

Thanks for any advice.

Yes its a prop that only have Daz Studio files...will not work in Carrara... you can open in Daz Studio (that is free anyway) and export as OBJ, them import in Carrara but you will have to do some textures adjustments.

Thanks for the replies.

GKDantas - when you say "you will have to do some textures adjustments" does that mean I would have to apply textures to all surfaces, or that some would import but would need tweaking?

Thanks,

Klebnor, if you have some care when exporting sometimes it you be all right, or you will need to twick the bump and some transparency channels. Look the attached image, the top image is a test render from the fish imported into Carrara as a OBJ file. The bottom show the export dialog fro Daz Studio where in the first tab you can choose the Carrara preset (for scale) and you see now the second tab where you choose to export image maps to... so dont forget to choose this options so you dont have more problems.

Thanks, GKDantas,

I guess I'll install Daz Studio and give it a try.

With latest D|S Studio there has been some success importing .daz files also into C.

No need to think outside the box....
    Just make it invisible.

Yes maybe the newest version can save better files to be readed by Carrara... maybe props and more simple things can work better.

Well, I installed the content to one of my runtimes, but it doesn't show up in the browser.  Is .daz the standard save format for a DS scene?  If so, how do I open it in Carrara?  I assumed I would see the building prop (or props) in the browser, but I don't.  (They don't show up in Poser either, I checked - but I assumed this was because it was the .daz format and Poser wouldn't natively open it).

So, do I import the .daz file into Carrara?  If so, I shouldn't need DS installed as I don't need to save out a .daz file - I already have it.  That's the format the prop came in.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just import the Daz file to Carrara using the file menu.
