....of a little collie called Maya

We got her yesterday. She belonged to a footballer who'd been playing for Stoke but has been transferred to Wrexham so is away much longer and they don't have time to spend housetraining her properly.

They'd only had her for a couple of weeks but we're keeping her name as it suits her and she responds well to it.

I'll be posting photos in my gallery no doubt but this pic is from the website where we found her.
She has the most beautiful blue eyes!!!

Really cute. :-)
"Maya" is a better name than "Cinema4D" or "3DS MAX". LOL  But not as cute as "Vue". :-) LOL

Maya = illusion....hmm a great dog's name come to think of it...my lil girl called herself Blue 14 years ago[would only respond to that word] and she's been the major reason I'm still sane and have my anger under control all these many years later...You have done the both of you[you and Maya] a great favour by welcoming her into your life. See ya here when y got time.. ...

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

rutra - her name was given to her by her Belgian owners !  I though it a funny coincidence that she should have the name of a high end app 😄

melikia - yes, her eyes are a really bright blue.  I hope they stay that way as they're so lovely.  She's 13 weeks old now.

Congratulations on your new puppy, she is gorgeous.

I have a Border Collie also, his name is Bowie- a name I chose because he has one blue eye and the other brown.

Maya will retain her blue eyes, have no worries.   It is from her genes, my Bowie did.

Have fun enjoying your new pup. Jan

gillbrooks ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2008 at 4:33 PM

I love that name!

We've had 2 collie crosses in the past and both had brown eyes.

She sleeps a lot but has several bouts of madness charging about the place with her new fluffy bone.  She is stilll inquizitive at the moment but she should soon settle and learn.  Getting her properly housetrained is the most important priority at the moment which is why I'm trying to stick to a set routine for her.  No more spending 4 hours working on a Vue scene for a while.....

She's sleeping right now, giving me chance to fire up the laptop and catch up on teh galleries

Hope that helps, now, SIT! Bahahahaha! God bless your new addition. I have no doubt you will be constant friends!

Aw! she's gorgeous!! :)
Give her a hug from me?  :)

My mutt's a mix of German SHeperd, Collie and golden labrador, unbelievably affectionate, smart wee soul. Love him to bits
agrees with Bobby's sentiments He's helped me a lot dealing with illness etc.
Nothing like a dog coming in in the morning, sniffing, jumping part up on the bed for a hug etc.

Soooooo much better than many Humans ;)

She's having plenty of hugs from us but I'll give her an extra one 😄

We're making progress with house training - no accidents this morning and she actually jumped up at the back door one of the times she needed to 'go' so after 2 days she's learning very well !!

What a cure puppy, congratulations. I'd love to get a dog some time, but Bob the Cat disapproves of any other animals in the household that are too large to eat.

gillbrooks ( ) posted Wed, 12 November 2008 at 4:13 AM

OOH nawty Bob!!

Maya is going to meet my niece's dog on ~Friday.  She's a month older than Maya but is VERY timid so maybe meeting another pup will help her a little.  Her name is Jessica - a black lab.

Maya went to the vets yesterday for a check up and she's in perfect health.  She was also very brave when that big needle went in her back.  We thought it best to have her microchipped early....getting it over with.  She only cried a little and the vet gave her a little tidbit afterwards to help her realise going there isn't a bad thing.

I promise to get a proper photo of her to upload to the gallery by the weekend !!

Hey how did my dog sniffing nose miss this one???
Maya is a reall cutie pie and needs to bed besides your's, tehehehe, woof-woof, it the best place you know. She looks like a Border Collie and will need lots of exercise and a cow or horse to corral, it make em feel important and they are!!!! All the Best with the Cute Pooch Gill!!!

gillbrooks ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 7:41 AM

Yes, she's a border collie.  My niece came to see us yesterday and brought her 5 month old labrador pup.  We took them both outside for a run around in the garden and Maya was 'herding' Jess.  12 weeks old and she knows what collies do already.  Must be in teh genes.   We're thinking of buying her a sheep for Christmas

Our last dog was border collie/springer cross so we know they love plenty to do and lots of excercise.  Fortunately, we live close to a forest and we also spend weekends in Wales in teh Summer.....plenty of beaches to run around on.

She's smart.  Took less than 3 days to get her housetrained.

Yeah as we say here, "Smart as a Whip", not really sure why a whip is so smart, but that's what they. Maybe it's when ya get hit by one and it smarts, hmmmm, maybe, Anyway she is Precious and I can tell full of years of joyousness,......................................... us doggies can tell these things
;^D

whips by nature aren't smart... but when they strike you, it "smarts just a bit"

thus...
smart as a whip ;)

ok, my guess anyway LOL.

still waiting for another piccy of Maya-cutie, Gill ;)  3 days house-training - excellent!

Using the 'ignore bad, praise good' method.  That and a good routine is all that's needed.
After 2 days she'd be looking at me while peeing to see what tasty morsel I was pulling out of my pocket.  Now when we let her out, first thing she does is pee, then she goes off investigating.

The only punishment I see fit for any dog doing wrong is to ignore it.  They're pack animals - that's why it works so well.

We've got two border collies and two rat terriers. The border collies need to run a lot every day. Since we're on a ranch that's no problem, but for those who can't get enough exercise, these type of dogs can get into a lot of mischief!

Oh, I know that from previous experience, but I think I mentioned we live close to Cannock Chase forest - it's where we've always taken our dogs to let off steam 😄

Aye, tone of voice is all the punishment a dog ever needs really, they know they've done wrong, so it's important to keep a specific tone of voice for reprimand.
But usually they are eager to please and dont' need it.
Love and affection = best training method there is by far.

Only problem with my scamp is he loves licking where other dogs have peed, sigh! Never got him out of the habit, no matter what!
Oh well,  he's allowed his icky idiosyncracy I guess ;)

Sven the wonder puppy! wlel ok, he's 13 now, but he's sitll my pup ;)
that's his "Walkies?!" look.

Maya is so damned cute, sigh!! :)
You'd have ot have a heart of stone not to get all soft and soppy when a friendly mutt looks at you with them biiiiiig eyes and you know they are saying *"walkies, please, please? WALKIES!!??"

  • hehe :)

Nearly all my dogs have had a 'thing' about licking bird poop and Maya is following the tradition.

We took her to the vets a couple of days after we got her.
First the receptionist went gooey eyed, then the vet.  Considering the number of sweet young pups they must see is an indication of her cuteness.

Personally, I prefer when dogs reach adulthood.  Pups are cute but loving, loyal wellbehaved adults are the most rewarding thing to share.
