Subject: OT - I had a poser moment today

Winterclaw ( ) posted Sat, 08 November 2008 at 7:34 PM · edited Sun, 08 December 2024 at 10:21 AM

I was in the best buy earlier today and I ended up walking around in the music section, which I rarely do.  Anyways as I was wandering around and one of the CDs, after seeing the art I was like "hey, I know that character and that outfit."

This is sort of a first for me.  Has anyone been out and about and noticed some art with Viki or one of the other poser characters before?

Don't ask me the name of the CD or the group because I've totally forgotten.

WARK!

Ha! no i have never seen any poser stuff in adverts here, but that's nepal, where the equal to Best Buy is Samir's Cheap Chinese Imports (with a whopping 1000sqft. of floor space).

The only place i have ever seen poser content used commercially is on porn sites, not that I go there much. ha!

I've seen plenty on the TV locally! In the past six or eight months, it's gone from none, to maybe once or twice a day!  Holy crap, I'm sick of Jessi in T-pose being shown as a murder victim.  Time for Vicky to get some 'murder-time' too. LOLOLOL Or health person, or Simon selling carpets. Or whatever next.

The ads on Telemundo are extremely Poser-heavy.  The best is a male figure,
I think Don-based, wearing a super-hero costume.  His superpower is the
ability to relieve toenail fungus.  Have no fear, Hongo-Man is here!

One local tv studio in my part of the world, uses the Poser 6 people for their print advertising of their special broadcasting-related events - the instantly-recognisable James and Jessie typically appear in the Chinese-language newspapers.

there used to be 'poser-addiction' threads here , where people would start to 're-engineer' (mentally, of course) hair styles ("if I lengthened the front bangs but a quarter dial-turn"), or clothes ("that woman is wearing x's dress textures for the y dress"), of real people, etc...;)

I remember Eurosport used V3 (I think) a couple of years ago when they were doing some promos for the Winter Olympics in Turin. Recognisable by the noodle shoulders lol

BBC News sometimes uses the Poser figures for crime/accident re-enactments, I've seen them in the papers too, the sun has been running a daily cartoon called The Premier heavily using Poser figures for at least 2 years.

I remember walking into an independent record store a few years, and seeing a big, melancholy-looking Aiko staring back at me from the cover of a CD by "....And They Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead".  It was kind of neat.  Heck, I even recognized the character (by Thorne and Sarsa) they used :)

Winterclaw ( ) posted Wed, 12 November 2008 at 10:46 AM

dorkmcgork, do you mean mirror's edge?

Seems like there are a number of companies that use poser to create art...

Oh geesh that mortgage ad that was all over the internet always used them, including the Millenium Cat.

I saw a game on Verizons games on demand site the other day that uses the Toon baby.  A furniture store in Richmond used to use the Toon dragon dancing across the screen

The last dinner theatre show my husband and I attended had the old DAZ ghost used in an print ad in the playbill for a carbon monoxide detection company.

I've also seen  them worked over nicely on both tangible and of course ebook covers.  Cell phone screen savers/desktops.

And wasn't it the GEForce cards that had the toon Alien on the boxes?

Oh and custom tower boxes too.

There's been even more over the years.

The Self Check Out is in several stores (I think they all use the same companies software...) Kroger here and a local chain both use the same as Home Depot Self Check Out. I first saw the Walmart one when I was on Vacation in Floridia, but I do not think that is the same as the Home Depot one, or it did not catch my eye.  We have a Mattress Ad that uses Poser Don and there is a Local Foot Doctor that uses Poser Dork.

The funniest one to me was a Site promoting their Graphics Art services that used Judy. When I contacted them to confirm, they first said it was a custom figure created in house by a team of their artists with Maya. The next day they removed the image. I guess the Team came clean!

I have also seen several Magazine Covers and Articles along with many things on several Cable channels. Science Magazines seem to use Poser Don and James a lot. News Magazines use them also (also it seems some ads for Health issues in Magazines use Poser figures.)

I think my favorite so far was when ATI used the Aiko Bot on the cover of one of their video cards...and, meanwhile, I think the Aiko was used in a campaign around the same time for NVidia (IIRC, it was an image by Kromekat?)

yeah i think it's mirror's edge
shows what they allude to be ingame screen of a character shooting a helicopter or something, but of course we all know how ingame graphics never match the promo

look at those lovely WOW promos after all.  i still find those inspiring.  definitely not poser there though.  and the particles and the hair!  man...
