Subject: Poser/ZBrush Question: Hiding the eyelashes?

Hi all,

I've asked this over at the ZBrush forum, but I thought I'd ask here too. I'm trying to work on a morph for the head, but the eyelashes are in the way of doing anything with the eyes. I've noticed that the eyelashes are grouped with the head, like most figures. Is there any way I can hide the eyelashes without hiding the rest of the head?

I think you can select the lashes in polygroups(not on my ZB pc) and ctrl/shift. This may not be safe from the tools if it is not locked AND invisible.

,, but another way is to simply dial eyelash length into negative before exporting it...

Eyelash length...-3.000. If you just export the head you don't even have to worry about material groups, UVmapper,,,et al

Just pop back your eyelash length when you bring it back.

Thanks Richardson for your reply and for your tips! I remember reading that at ZBrush Central not too long ago, but I was wondering if there was another way.

As for the eyelash length... I'm using Michael 4, and only have the base (I don't have the morphs) and am trying to create my own morphs. I don't see the eyelash length morph dial in there. Is that available with just the base or only with the morph package?

Okay, I'm trying to follow Miss Nancy's instructions.

I've got the mesh imported into ZBrush, and I've created a morph for the eyes. When I apply it to the figure in Poser, I'm getting a wrong number of verticles error. :( Anyone know how to solve this?

Um, I already told you in the other thread. You need the original grouping if you want to import the object as a morph target.

Okay, this way is easy enough -- I assume you are just exporting the head and working on the eyes? 

You don't need to move the eyelashes with a magnet -- just create a new group using the eyelash material as suggested by Miss Nancy.  Export the head as morph target, including groups. Resize to prevent rounding errors if you're using 3.1, using either the free objaction scaler or the poser scaler plug-in.

Import into zBrush, and ctrl+shift click the head. Since the lashes are now a separate group, they will be hidden.  Do your morph, then ctrl+shift click on the canvas to show all the mesh. Your eyelashes will reappear. With your head and eyelashes visible, you can now export, resize, and use as a morph target.

Yes, I know I've already asked over in the ZBrush forum, but I had already asked this in the Poser forum before I got your reply there. Thank you for your help with this both here and there. I apologize if I've offended you.

I figured out exactly what went wrong before. Appearantly when I had exported it as an OBJ file, it was still expecting that "Lash" group to be there and that is probably what prompted the "wrong number of verticles" error. So I've remedied the problem with after removing the magnet, spawning a morph target of it and then deleting the lash group and corresponding material to it. Now it works. But I'll be careful to note your suggestions for next time, as that's a much quicker way to do it appearantly. LOL.

Oh, no, not offended, or I wouldn't have tried to help further. :) Sorry if I came off as abrupt. Zbrush does make you jump through hoops sometimes and it can be difficult to explain things.

Anyway, I'm glad you got it working.

Thanks! It had just occured to me after I posted that. I went to eat dinner, and not intentionally forgot to post that I had found out why LOL. Whoops. I'll keep in mind though your suggestion, it sure sounds a lot easier than what I went through before hehe.
