You get a Cring monocle :) As someone who's focally challenged, I couldn't resist creating some eyewear for twillis's Cring character. I did it for my own amusement really, but now that it's done, I'm wondering if it's worth putting in freestuff? Would any other Cring-ers be interested? (Pending twillis's permission, she might have something similar planned and I wouldn't want to step on her toes). gps

Great to see Cring making a singular spectacle of himself :)

You should take that over and try it in Bryce. If you set up the lense with the right refractive index, it will actually magnify objects. Think of the possibilies! Your very own Cring-nerd with an over-sized eye from the strong correction. As if it needed to get any bigger! ;-)

I would download it if it were in freestuff...

The monicaled mutaneer lol exellent

LOL Without hands the Cring would need a whole different kind of stuff, like umbrellas, backpacks and so forth. Ah, the possibilities.

bushi ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 5:10 AM

Well, since they obviously have artifacts then they must have a way of manipulation. The first thought is a prehensile tongue but I don't what to go there. ;-)

Wizzard ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 5:12 AM

well.. the "feet" seem to be relatively prehensile 8 ) and there's always teh "psychic factor" to consider 8 )

mi-scha ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 5:24 AM

Yup, with the monocle he looks really "psychic". :)

Looks like there's enough interest to make this a freestuff contender, but I haven't heard from twillis yet. I sent an IM, but I don't think she's logged in since early Friday (I haven't had that little blue box saying that the message was received) so I'll send her an email as well just to be on the safe side. gps

I think she'll love it! She might just have been out all day today. I was thinking that maybe I should make another texture for our fun little one eyed friend. Liz Pope Dreamspinner Inc.

Oops! Sorry I didn't see this sooner! I think it's terrific! An aristocratic Cring! And yes, I am totally OK with people posting Cring freestuff, especially neat stuff like this. In addition to the monocle, I love what you've done with the eye texture (textures are my Achilles' heel -- well, one of my Achilles' heels; I have several). Your monocle strikes me as a practical solution for Cring's biology. You could do some fun stuff with it. Like how about a jewellers lens for Cring-the-Counterfitter? Of course, figuring out what sort of counterfitting tools this guy would need could be a bit of a challenge... Very nice work, and if you post it in freestuff, I'll snag a copy for myself. --Terri

Ah yes... meant to add that yes, the feet were designed to double as hands (which is why I used "finger" names for the toes). If figure they might be "right handed" or "left handed" (or footed), just like we are. One hand/foot would be favored for manipulation, the other would be used for support (the toes can spread out so there at equal angles). And the tongue could be prehensile as well, which could lead to some interesting martial arts. But there are challenges to designing even the simplist tools. Like, for example, something as basic as hammer and nail. What if Cring wanted to nail something up on a wall? How would he hold the nail in place? I've thought of a couple of approaches, but how about I might throw it out as an informal challenge. Any takers? --Terri

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Thu, 05 July 2001 at 7:08 AM

Cring is going to need sunglasses when he goes outside. As for the nail on the wall question, maybe psychic powers are the way to go.

twillis ( ) posted Thu, 05 July 2001 at 7:52 AM

Actually, I think a modified hammer would do it. One that had a nail-sized hole in one end that could hold the nail until you got it started. Then flip the hammer around and bang it the rest of the way in. Beats holding the nail with your tounge.
