Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 05 5:33 pm)
If you have room on your C: drive you can run it from there. Then you can attach to your Library (Runtime) on your external drive. Shout if you need guidance on how to do that.
You don't have to re-install Poser itself on the external drive, unless you really are low on space and want to reclaim some.

Silly me, that's what you were asking about in the first place... innit?
On your Library palette in Poser, go the top folder level, where it shows your different Runtimes, click the + button down the bottom, and then select the PARENT folder of your Runtime folder on your external drive.
You will need to have that drive connected whenever you open a scene containing things from that Runtime, of course.

I don't understand the problem. Just move your Poser installation to your external HD and thats it. The only thing, if you don't edit the LibraryPrefs.xml it may be that you have to direct to the external Runtimes again, if you have any.

So... Poser is running from your main HD, and your library is on your external HD?
And you need to know how to access your library in Poser?
If I understand the question right, please look at my second post in this thread for the answer... or if it's not clear, I can try to explain again.

Now click the + button down the bottom, and select your library on the external drive.
Make sure to select the PARENT folder of the new Runtime folder. The name of this parent folder will be the name of your new Library in Poser.

There is something in the V4 Readme file that says it has to be installed in the main Poser runtime. I'm not sure why, since I have never had any problems using it from another runtime - but I am on a Mac, so maybe it's different.
Maybe this is causing the problem with V4 not loading. You could try installing Poser itself on the external drive, and put V4 in the main runtime, and see if it loads okay from there. Sorry, I'm not really much help!

I'm running my whole Poser 7 from an external HD without any probs. With V4 you should install the !DAZ folder in your main runtime, means: "e frontier/poser 7/Runtime/Libraries/!DAZ" but thats the problem with all the files in this directory. Poser 7 will find them even in an other runtime but this will take some time.
