THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Today's Wip

Finally did something in Bryce. It's been a while since I've been able to complete a whole image. That is a glacier in the background. I know it is just a clutter mess of trees right now. I hope to be able to organize it into something a bit more appealing to the eye. Not sure I like the background either or the sky, but Bryce sky's are a bit hard to get right. All C&C welcome.

Pretty autumn colors! I like what you have so far. Keep us posted on this.

bobbystahr ( ) posted Sun, 23 November 2008 at 5:20 PM

Looks good so far..to "clear up the clutter", for a first step you might try widening the POV to 65-70...something like that. You can dial it back from too wide, and I've found that often improves a scene...I know what you mean about Bryce skies, I tend to be so bad at dialing them I use the presets mildly tweaked mostly.. ...

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound

How do the trees look as far as realism goes? Are they convincing or do they still look like Bryce trees? I'm a little to close to know for sure. It helps to click on the pic to see a bigger image of it.

Ang25 ( ) posted Sun, 23 November 2008 at 6:14 PM

Umm, I'm having a dumb moment. How do you widen the POV to 65 or 70?
Thanks

rstar ( ) posted Sun, 23 November 2008 at 6:58 PM

Go into perspective and select "attributes". Then adjust the pov to whatever number you want - lower numbers mean a closer view and higher mean a wider view

AnnieD ( ) posted Sun, 23 November 2008 at 7:02 PM

I think the colors are beautiful...and the leaves do look realistic..at least to me.
Looking forward to seeing how you finish it.

Thanks rstar!
I'm rendering a new view atm. Then I'll go in and try the POV attributes.
:)

Here's the next wip.

Forgot to mention, I'm using a photo I took of the sky.

Ang25 ( ) posted Sun, 23 November 2008 at 7:29 PM

:blushing: I thought I knew where to go, but I couldn't find any place for perspective attributes. I'm sure its easy and I'm just having a moment.

rstar ( ) posted Sun, 23 November 2008 at 7:36 PM

I like the 1st pic and think it has possibilities to do something interesting as is but the 2nd one is easier to view

Ang25 ( ) posted Sun, 23 November 2008 at 7:51 PM

I think the lighting is too bright in the 2nd one, I'm going to try toning it down a bit. But not tonight, its getting late and I still have to RW things to do.

Try this, go down to the "select Groups/meshes" arrow at the bottom right of the work screen and then click "select camera" option. It will open the attributes column. Click the "A" and this window will open, go from there and adjust FOV as needed.

Ang, another, and the route I took, is this screen shot. Clicking the highlighted area brings up the Attributes as well.. ... EDIT...2nd arrow from the top on the left side of the work area.. ...

Thanks everyone. I'm at work right now, but will have to check out all three ways when I get home. You'd think with 3 possible routes I'd have been able to find it. The only place I came close was with the one Bobby pointed out. Not sure what I was doing wrong.  I can't see the words on this monitor at work so I won't know till I get home, exactly where to look.

OT to Quest. I dropped my car off to be fixed and although today is much much warmer, I still had to put my hood up because yep.. It's Friggin Snowing again grrrrrr. When will it end? Crap its only November. This is going to be a brutal winter, I can feel it.

Well gotta run, those library people want their books, lol.

bobbystahr ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2008 at 6:05 PM

Same here ang...but just light dustings so far after a killer 4 inches of stuff that turned the sidewalks abd roads int skating rinks for a week...sigh...then it all sorta started disappearing and simply threatening, but our east coast [canada] really got it the weekend.. ...

threatening to rain here - I suspect it's a tempest in a teapot but then again . . . well, we'll see.

BTW: nice colors, Ang ! ! !

Ang that actually looks like some photos I took while down in the mountains this fall. Nice work.

Bryster, I've been looking for that button for years, but you know how those tentacled people are.

Nice work Ang, how's you're hand at postwork in a 2D editor? Setting a DOF blur in the forground (slightly) and the focus being in the distance could possibly give you a photo look, especially with the shadowing you've got here.

Just wanted to take this op to say "Hi Ang"...Like your trees..Thats what it looked like along the Rio Grande last week..

Sambucus ( ) posted Wed, 03 December 2008 at 5:29 AM

I think I like the first one best, Ang. The second one is nice but seems like it`s waiting for something else, it is a wip. The first just screams autumn, a little abstract but powerful. IMHO.
Enjoy your snowball fights.

Quest ( ) posted Wed, 03 December 2008 at 2:54 PM

You guys have no idea how Ang just hates snow and for good reason...there's always snow on the ground there for the better part of the winter and then some. Makes it difficult to drive around in and then you've got those pesky deers to watch out for. I've seen lots of deer splatter up there when I go visiting with her...really scary.

Ang25 ( ) posted Wed, 03 December 2008 at 3:52 PM

It has gotten up into the upper 30's F for the past 3 or 4 days without any new snowfall and sadly, the only ground I see is where I've shoveled a path. Maybe by the end of March the ground will resurface.  Right now the snow isn't deep but it is still covering the landscape, sigh.
The deer have been hiding, its hunting season. But I'm sure they will reappear soon.
Back to my WIPs, I've tried a couple more things but with disasterous results. Will keep trying, because I've got good colors going.
Thanks for all the comments!
