I tried and tried, but I cannot find any free textures for vue that fit to the programm.

Can anyone help me?

Of course, you have a camera and you can shot photos and make your textures, also. It is really very easy and you can make textures of anything you want it to be!!!

I'm with you - I don't think there are nearly as many free textures for Vue as there are for, say, Bryce.  However, I really like Virtual Land's free textures:

Those look absolutely scrumptious but aren't  they JPGs with the mountains included rather than actual Vue materials? I wouldn't know how to apply them, but then I'm a newby.  Any help/suggestions appreciated.

Thanks, Frank - been there and watched the beginner ones covering Materials.  As an example, I downloaded one of the JPGs, applied it to a terrain as a Color Map in the Material Editor along with as a Bump Map, and it looked, well - ayem, pretty awful. So - you see, I'm pretty convinced there's got to be more to it. and I must be missing something.

One problem with doing that is that a lot of the materials aren't tileable so you are going to see seams and all sorts when the texture repeats.  If you make them tileable in PS or something then it'll help a lot.  You might want to play with the scale as well - although to be truthful, I probably wouldn't use one of them on a terrain (or at least not a big one)

Thanks for the tips, Frank.  I'll do just that.  I just downloaded the sTile program the other day, and this'll give me a good excuse to explore it. I'll fiddle with the scaling as well.  I appreciate your help!  It was mainly terrain textures I was looking for.

Sorry I don't do more free materials, I'd love to, but...I need ot make some money to pay for all the Vue, Poser etc stuff I buy, sorry!

As said, my dirt map material is one of the best things you'll ever find, if you figure out why...

look at a typical house or wall or whatever material...
duplicate the objects...and it's damned obvious they are simple clones as the material is exactly the same (and often too clean).

Add my dirt map material and...voila', not so similar any more...also, it does add more "realism" by aging/dirtying things. You can easily add it to any material, and increase/decrease amount, colour etc to suit the object.

Two cubes, same material, but, dirt map added to the one on right...

I've collected textures for many years, 3D world magazine usually has a bunch on every CD :)

Lot of great tips in your tutorial, Silverblade!  'tis getting late in the eve (well, semi-late  here in Montana), but I'll play around tomorrow both with your tutorial and your Dirt Map material. Between you and Frank, I've got enough ammunition now to be dangerous.
