Subject: problem with v6 infinite on vista 64 help please

TIMMYLYNN ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2008 at 10:07 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 12:06 PM

I love vue.  i recently got a 64 bit vista computer.  loaded all my 3d programs on it and they all work fine EXCEPT for vue6.  it is 64 bit version...it auto loaded it off the same installation cd i used on my 32 bit machines.  At first it crashed everytime i rendered and i asked eon about it and they advised to change display option to wireframe and then uncheck show this dialogue box on the post render options box and that stopped it from crashing.  now there is another problem.  if i render to any where other than disk, i cannot save it.  the save buttons do not open a dialogue box on renders.  i try right clicking and save...nothing...file export picture.  nothing...if i hit the main save button it brings up dialogue box to save scene but i cannot save a render of a picture unless i render to disk..i have uninstalled and reinstalled and searched microsoft..ran compatilbilty wizard...etc etc and same thing...i'm getting very frustrated...i love vue but this is  very frustrating.  if anyone can help please let me know....thank you

peace and love

Are you running as administrator?  Right-click on the exe and select run as administrator.

also during my investigation i found that if you select the launch app now on the initial install it auto sets it to elevated...(run as administrator)...

Did you get the latest patch?  Just came out yesterday.

If that doesn't help - I'd say contact the e-on techs.  Use the contact a technician button on e-on's site.

I've been using Vue6Infinite with Vista for over 12 months with no issues.
There are many things you need to do in Vista before running anything, most problems with Vista are down to peeps not preparing properly, no offence intended, Vista is a whole new beast to any Windows OS you've used before, until you tame it that is!

You've already said you're runing in admin mode, next is switch off the UAC, causes more problems that it's worth IMO, next check that all your folders have "full permissions" set, Vista sometimes has your top level folder on Full, while leaving the sub folders not on Full, it shouldn't do that but it does, unless they've fixed it with recent updates, I haven't checked.
Do those and see how it runs then.

i agree about uac...turned it off as soon as I turned on computer almost.  The folder thingie may be the problem.    I found something about powerpoint issues with saving for vista on the microsoft website last nite.  It was talking about folders.  Can you give me more detailed instructions on how to check that?  It is very weird all other programs are working and if i try to save scene it opens the save dialogue and it pointing to the documents/scenes folder automatically....but if i hit any of the other disk save buttons.....nothing....try to export picture and nothing....so maybe it is the folder thing.  I will investigate more and if you can give more detail on how to check that would be great also....

Right click on your folders, properties the you should see a security tab, in there you'll see a box for permissions, make sure "you" have full permissions set, use the edit feature to do it if you need to, Vista defaults to Full permissions for System only!
Earlier versions didn't filter it down to the sub folders, I don't know if this is still how it is or if they updated it, you'll need to see!

well I have spent about an hour making sure i am owner and full control.  but it still will not save a render to screen.  still no dialogue box opens for that...it is really strange because it opens for scene object...etc...just not for picture.  havent tried animation yet...but i found a very disturbing thread.  Please see the link above.

i just tried to save an animation and the browse button on the render options panel does absolutely nothing.  I'm ready to throw it...lol

I don't know what else to offer, you've exhausted my meagre knowledge of it, the only other thing is a re-install of Vue!
That's not as drastic as it sounds but you'd have to make sure it's all gone. I had to do this once when it started playing up and wouldn't load Poser textures, after trying loads of suggestions, a re-install was the only thing that worked.
I copied my e-on folder first and put it on a XHD, then deleted the whole thing from my pc before re-installing!
The only down side is having to go through the activation bollocks again, which e-on have never made easy!! [LOL].

im gonna try that today after some other things...  I found a link for improved performance...turning off a bunch of this stuff like sidebar etc...im gonna do that and check the folders again b4 the re install.  if re install doesn't work ill be back at eon.  I appreciate your input.  will post solution when I find it...if i do...lol

I'll second the re-install - a great program to have is called Ccleaner.  It helps with cleaning the registry.

Happy Ending!!!  Reinstall worked BUT eon doesn't seem to like for you to place your documents folder on an external drive...let it install on my computers harddrive and now all the save buttons work, thank goodness and here's to dealing with a new operating system!!!

Thanks for your help you two!!!  I really appreciate it!!!
