Subject: Modeling Architecture - A Video Tutorial for Beginners

contrafibbularities ( ) posted Thu, 30 October 2008 at 3:35 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 4:15 PM

Hi everyone,

Bobby* suggested that I put this thread in the general modeling forum as well because the modeling techniques are applicable to software packages other than Cinema 4D, so here I am... :-)

I'm currently working on a beginner tutorial on architectural modeling  in Cinema 4D. It's not quite finished yet, but the first few videos are done. It's going to be a fairly detailed step-by-step workshop (the estimated total length of the finished set is two to four hours).

Thanks to the kind support of Bobby* the first videos I've recorded can already be accessed from the tutorial section here at Renderosity, but you also can get to them via the links below. I'll update this thread with new links as soon as new videos are available.

Currently these videos can only be watched online at ShareCG with a reduced resolution, but as soon as the set is complete, I intend to make it available as a download.

I hope there's some beginners out there who will find the tutorial useful. The building in the attached image is what we're going to model. Not quite the Sacre Coeur from Rochr's  WIP thread in the C4D forum, I know, but it's a start... :-)

Most useful stuff. Is there more tuts on the whole building ? :) Strata

Thanks, strata! Sure there's more, at least there will be. The tutorial will show the modeling of the entire building as seen in the picture of my previous posting. These are just the first few videos I've recorded. New videos will be released on a more or less regular basis, depending on when I find the time to do them. I'll probably upload the next ones sometime this weekend.

I must also say that you have a great voice and pedagogy for instruction videos, very informative. :) Strata

@strata
Thanks again, I'm flattered... :-) I really love doing tutorials and sharing the little knowledge that I have. It's nice to know that  I seem to be able to convey something useful. As to my voice: I've seen a lot of video tutorials, both commercial and free, and I liked most of the voices, but let me tell you, it's definitely weird to hear one's own voice. :-) I still have to get used to that...

He, he, I think thats a fact for most people.
Happy Halloween.

Happy Halloween to you too!

It's so kind of you to share your hard work.  :)  Thanks!  Very much appreciated!

Thanks! Like I said, I love doing tutorials. It's very rewarding to get positive feedback like yours, so I never really think about the amount of work it takes to get such a project done. You wouldn't believe how much I learn myself by doing tutorials like this. Also, it's nice to finally be able to give at least something to the communities out there in return for the generosity that I've experienced.

07 The Window Grid

Next up will be a simple ceiling for the groundfloor, and then we're going to move on to modeling a door for the entrance.

contrafibbularities ( ) posted Sun, 09 November 2008 at 6:35 AM

More of the same.... :-)

In the next couple of lessons we're going to finish the groundfloor (we'll model the door frame, the door blade and a door mounting), and then (finally) move on to adding the upper floors.

contrafibbularities ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2008 at 7:35 PM

The next set of videos for my architectural tutorial for beginners is done, and these parts conclude the chapter on modeling the groundfloor.

I'll take a short break now. :-) I need to sort some things out before I start recording the next bits, and first of all I'm going to prepare downloadable versions of the existing videos, which will have better video quality. The downloads will be available soon, I hope.

contrafibbularities ( ) posted Sun, 16 November 2008 at 5:22 AM

Thanks to kyhighlander, the first 16 videos are now available as downloads at Poser Nation. So if you prefer the better quality of the downloadable versions to the online videos at ShareCG, get them at Poser Nation (no registration required to be able to download the files):

 Thanks very much for posting these on ShareCG.  I just visted and watched them.  BTW, I hadn't been there for a while and was pleasantly surprised that they've updated and the look and feel of the site.  Your work really stands out over there.  Any way, thanks much!

@cgart101
You're very welcome, I'm happy that you like the videos! Your feedback is very much appreciated.

I agree, the new ShareCG look and feel is a major improvement. It's a lot more appealing than it was before. :-)

Good stuff.... Too bad the videos were not available for download as the first part is... The video is displayed a little smallish via a browser for my 50+ eyes....

Thanks for creating these videos and sharing....
