Syyd ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 9:21 AM · edited Sat, 25 January 2025 at 1:17 AM

Hi there all, was wondering if anybody had some new suggestion for July's contest? Any and all ideas will greatly be appreciated, and thrashed out thoroughly, seriously, send em on up folksies? Syyd

Yes! Reflections! or something along that line. Such as what you'd see in a puddle, a pond, a car window, etc. Lisa

JordyArt ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 9:29 AM

I know it sounds wierd, but I have a line of a song going around my head, so I'll suggest it as a theme ; "Getting Away With It" Strange I know, but totally open to interpretaion, so we'll get a real variety of types of image!

Syyd ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 12:49 PM

Wow, great ideas all....Foodwise, thats awesome, Pizza can be looking like acne vulgaris, and that is no joke. Rusty! One of my all time favorite words, but I like the reflections idea, as you obviously know, I have been working on that one, so maybe Im biased, and the color on color....eggs on a white sheet is such a radical idea. Guys, if we could all agree on something say by Monday or Tuesday, so we can get our forum plans rolling along, that would be wonderful, and most appreciated. Back to the vinegar baths, Syyd

Rust and Food! That sounds good too! (although not on the same plate!) LOL I like the color idea also ... not sure what I think about "Getting Away With It" or else my interpretation is too ummmm explicit to voice here. LOL With the hot and sunny weather we're having here, and how reflections seem to happen everywhere I thought that would be good for July. Take care of your sunburn, Syyd!

Syyd ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 1:35 PM

oh god, A DUH PIZZA Face...okay so Im a nerd what can I say LOL? Reflections sounds great to me, and the color on color.

Slynky ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 1:40 PM

Something that makes you wanna do this... (o_O)? ry ps: AHHHHH!!! Colours no good for me! The Wraith is riding the Nazgul over my apartment!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Marshmallowpie ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 2:55 PM

Hum. Water reflections...very typical isn't it? Not exactly a new thing, but there is no end to the possibilities :-) Rust? I remember Syyd making a suggestion about that ages ago, before the first contest, could be interesting. Food..yummy. Hard for me to photograph food cos I'd be too tempted to eat it! Like with my Midori picture..I'd already drunk half the glass before I actually got any pictures taken.. :-P Anyway you guys decide without me as I don't have a camera at the moment. Not that I have been participating in the contests previously either. Err..maybe I should just shut up and go sit on my fencepost and watch life float past.

Syyd ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 3:00 PM

but reflections can be so many things as well......Seriously, go in your room at night, turn down the blinds, and watch how a streetlight or moon may illuminate every object it can, and fools you into thinking its something entirely different. See a reflection of light on a wall? They are beautiful...werid, and wonderful, and yes, I will take the Midori thanks LOL

Slynky ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 4:37 PM

-wimper-, let's do pictures that cannot be discerned by the eye, so therefore people have to use their imagination as to what it is... ry

stefbois ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 4:49 PM

I am in for reflexion! Rust second...then food hum my fridge is empty do...lol

Slynky ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 4:50 PM

nplus ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 5:54 PM

Syyd ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 6:04 PM

BOING BOING BOING BOING......hey I played with my slinky alot...I was fascinated to make him walk down those stairs.... Abstract rusty reflections, sounds like beautiful poetry and photography, N, may I use it in a poem? Syydburn

Slynky ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 6:04 PM

I'm understanding that no one likes my suggestions... -sniff- ry

Syyd ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 6:06 PM

On another note, if anyone would ever like poetry written for their photographs, I'd be glad to give it a try.

Lisas_Botanicals ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 6:07 PM

Actually Slynky, I think that your abstract idea could become part of reflections depending on what you shoot. Animals can also be part of reflections ... many possibilities! :)

Syyd ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 6:20 PM

dont cry....I think animals are great.....

Slynky ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 6:51 PM

I'd write my own poetry for my stuff if I deemed it fit. Been a musician for 4 years, been writing lyrics for 6. How about "Transparencies" for a topic...

Alpha ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 7:20 PM

Transparent means you can see through it clearly... However, Translucent might be interesting shoot. At any rate after thinking of some of the possiblities, I vote for Reflections this time around. Here is a short list of things that could work: Water, ice, glass, plexiglass, plastic, chrome, gold, silver, mirrors, sunglasses, polished cars. the inside of my head, polished furniture, balloons, shoes,

Syyd ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 8:04 PM

Well slynky, I was just mentioning it for those who might be interested. I am very proud of being a published poet, LOL.

Lisas_Botanicals ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 8:53 PM

Hey, me, too! Only one poem though but it's in a coffee table book. :)

Syyd ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 8:55 PM

Hey Me too, congrats Lisa!

Alpha ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 9:10 PM

You should both be very proud...

nplus ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2001 at 10:44 PM

If you feel you can use my word syyd go right ahead...........i want a cut tho ; )

starshuffler ( ) posted Sun, 01 July 2001 at 2:40 AM

My (boring) suggestions: - photo essay (series of photos) - portraits - anatomy I'll go for that single color theme, too. Rust? There isn't much in my world of post consumerist waste (plastics mostly. Bad, bad me). Maybe we could also make 2 subcategories for whatever theme - b/w and color. My two cents' worth (which isn't much where I come from lol) :-)

Interesting ideas in order of importance. 1. I'm for the food. Can we combine one of Slinkys ideas and the food idea. How about photos of food in a macro mode such that it's unrecognizable. 2. New idea. Shadows from reflected light. ( Reflected shadows? ) Eg. The shadow which is caused by water when light is reflected from it. 3. Reflections. Nuff said on this subject. 4. Jordys Getting away with it. The possibilities are...interesting. 5. Rust? Why don't we just say decay and really have fun. Perhaps that too open ended though. Who want's a contest where the obvious entry is rotten fruit or garbage. 6. Howabout hand and hace portraits. IE. A picture where the hand and face is visible. Bsteph
