Subject: M4 Compatability....?

arrowhead42 ( ) posted Sun, 07 December 2008 at 9:32 PM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 4:29 AM

Hi everyone - just a quick question, please; does anyone know if M4 is normally compatible with Poser 5? I downloaded him from Daz a few weeks ago, and just last night I tried to use him for the first time. When I tried to load him into my scene a window openedand said something like "this file is a newer version but Poser will try to open it anyway". I clicked the OK button and the same message popped up again. And again. Every time I clicked OK, it just did te same thing. I eventually had to just close Poser after I OK'd about 57 times. The only thing I can think of is that my version of Poser can't handle M4, but I certanly can't afford to upgrade right now. Has anyone else heard of anything like this?

Thanks -

Daz tests products in Poser 5, and it wouldn't pass QA without it working, so he should work fine.

Open the M4 cr2 in notepad, and in the first line or two, you'll see "version" and a number.. probably  6 or 7. (That refers to the poser version number)

Change that number to 5, and then resave that cr2 as M4Poser 5.cr2

Load that into P5, and see if it works.

Since Poser 6 is on sale for only $30 at CP, why not snag that as a cheap upgrade as well?

Poser 6 for $30?!? Hmmmm..... maybe I'll be getting myself a certain little something for Christmas  :)

In the meantime, I'll give your idea a try. Thanks!

Actually, SM JUST put Poser 7 on sale for only $100.. that might be more then you are willing to spend, but might also be just cheap enough to afford.

The version thing is fairly easy to fix but I know, with V4, she is only tested in P6 and higher. They changed joints from P5 to P6 and it didn't work as well in older versions so they don't test there.

Ah.. probably the same thing with M4 then as well. GOM to the rescue!

Yeah when I had the same problem I contacted DAZ and they stated that Poser 5 is not supported. The M4 base package, will eventually install as V4 does, so will his morphs package, (eventually) also. But so you know when I got them and installed them using Poser 5 I found that when I would  to load them to M4 nothing, nada, zipo. The dials don't work.

Could be they used some advanced tech that P5 can't support. Good thing P6 is only $30 now.. ;)

After the holidays the discounts on poser 6 and 7 may no longer exist.

Well if that's the case, then I'll have to live with it. My kids need a good Christmas much more than I need a new version of Poser. I'll just wait and see what happens. If it doesn't work out then it wasn't meant to be.

M4 is like V4 in that it has some defects in Poser 5 . You are probably getting all the messages because of the version numbers in all the morph inj that are loading .

Once the thing is loaded you can save it back to the library, and you wont get any further messages .
"Michael 4 requires Poser 6 or higher. The figure is not fully functional in Poser 5 or lower."    from Daz M4 base product information. Not recommended in Carrara 6 either :(

Why can't they release a figure that will work in all versions of Poser? Oh my bad that'd make too much sense.

I had no major problems using M4 in Carrara 6.2 pro, I only had the feeling, that the morphs didn´t work 100%, but that might be just a feeling. He loaded with no problems and all the poses worked fine on him,  the renders took hours, but that´s my computer...

I had the same problems with victoria4 - you have to be patient and click all the messages away - 60 or 80 times - LOL - I think they come from the inj-Pose files that have a version number of 6.
after you are done, re-save the figure into your library palette.
next time open your figure from the library and it should work perfectly :)

there is actually a very good reason they decided not to go that route, the smoothing alogrythm of Joint falloffs changed radically enough between Poser 5 and 6 that there is visible difference in how the joints bend, for the mil 4 figures that shows up particularly in the shoulder collar area. DAZ had a choice of making the joints work Ideally in P6 and P7 and not so ideally in P5 or Ideally in P5 and not so ideally in P6 and P7 obviously the former was the better solution. should they have just set the poser version # to 5 and hope that people accepted the lower quality joint falloff there? Perhaps, but they prefered to make it clear that the figures didn't work as well in earlier versions.

markschum ( ) posted Thu, 11 December 2008 at 10:36 PM

V4 has a butt implosion problem in Poser 5 if you bend her legs out like shes sitting on the ground .  Thats where the joint bend zones were changed .

Poor  Victoria! That's gotta hurt! I can see how it would be a problem.
