When you feel you are out of ideas...these work good to break out of a rut. Could be a list of possible contests too. -Light as subject -The wind -Space between Objects -Symbolic expression of Life and Death -Internal movement within an image -Doors and/or windows -hands -Elevation of common object to Shrine/Idol -Shadow as subject -Timelessness -Paper .........enjoy!

There are some fantastic subjects in this, thanks N! I saw a symbolic expression of life and death tonight. It was very strange. We walked up the street to get a soda for me and some beer for Colm. On a wall near the Noco store, were thousands of weird bugs, some people call them sandflies. Anyway, they were swarmed on that wall, and as still as could be. Already thousands had been trampled into flat discs on the blacktop. I said to Colm "They seek the light to live, and then to die".

I agree wioth Syyd here... These are all great concepts, and any one of them would make for an outstanding contest theme.

I love these--I'm a 'concept and symbolism' person--I've been carrying an idea around in my head for years--tried to figure out a way to express it in Bryce, but never did--may do it with photography. BTW--I have to say one of my favorite ideas here (other than the 'concepts') is doors/windows. I have door photos I've done for years and years--obviously they mean something to me as more than a subject, but they work for that too S. One of the things I really like about you Syyd, is the way you think/express. My favorite works of yours are those that combine your poetry/text with your images, but I think your concepts would come across with just the images also because that's how you see life (or am I assuming too much from the side of you I know virtually S)?? Diane writing this on the fly without my glasses, lol, couldn't find them by the bed this morning and on two hours sleep, I was up the whole night laying in bed thinking, about words and music, poetry and art actually and those bugs, stuff like this. I listened to David Bowie and Lou Reed last night, and it just set my head a whirl. Some of Bowies lyrics and sound put me somewhere else in myself. I appreciate what you said, it makes one aware that the idea being presented is not lost. On doors and windows, I think this is a very personal spiritual experience for you, my mom dreams of them also, and of houses as well. I read that it means attaining some kind of knowledge and then moving again into another doorway for a different kind of knowledge and so on and so on. I still keep to my heart my Chrysalis image and poem, something that I treasure of my own, because the picture was a photograph I took of my mother, and it was her very favorite of my written work.
