I don't know what Crazybump's displacement maps look like, so I can't answer to that, but I can show you a pretty good use for displacement maps. I'm including a link to one of my tutorials.Thank you. Squarely on nail's head! Exactly what I was looking for.
Now I will experiment with different materials from the Marlin texture pack I bought making patterns and applying them on different surfaces. The displacement maps can be made with Crazybump. I might be back with more questions!

I have been struggling with the problem for a while, about how to best render 3D or a work of line-art and I have arrived to the following conclusion: Material is everything in art or craft.
Instead of first making the 3D/line-art and then trying to realize it you must begin in the other end. That is first collect beautiful and interesting material and then sit down and think, "what can I do with this?"

What about using displacement maps in Photoshop? I searched around, found much talk but not much actually to see. For instance, is there anyone using displacement maps made by Crazybump here in this forum? Who can show some images? Comparing before and after?
