Recently I created a piece of software that at first was to be restricted to my use. See I work professionally as a web designer and frequently use software I create to promote my clients.  So back a few months I decided to duplicate a piece of software and modify it for use with 3ds modeling.

My wife after hearing me rant and rave over how great the software was stated that maybe I should give it away since in the past I have eagerly accepted the free models posted over the net, maybe it was my time to give back.

Since I have had public reviews posted that have confirmed my wife’s thought process...

So this will be the last time I offer this on this forum.  Now since its first offering this has been posted on Top downloads, Daz, Renderosity, Runtime DNA, 3d Commune forum’s, EZ Themes I have added it to my supported blogs and to date it has been downloaded 5453 times,

A few of the reviews I have received.

I have to say, I’m over the moon with this toolbar, I found content sites I didn’t even know existed and a great new community too. Add on the fact that you can listen to music see what the weather is doing, download gadgets, watch TV, all from your toolbar.
What more could you want? Thanks muchly,
PaulaL.

Very nice piece of toolbar for the browser. I have discovered sites that I didn't even know existed for models... This is terrific!

This rocks!.

This certainly makes it easy for me to find models quickly! But I think it would be great if it had a section for 3d animation using many of those free models. You have a spot perfect for it: TV. I volunteer to be first. ;) http://www.myspace.com/myinsomniapresents

It's a rar, not an exe. The site puts a download now button up top, which may be what you clicked to get the exe, but the toolbar download is lower. And I have to say, this is a fabulous tool, I have zero problems with it (and I have problems with EVERYTHING and HATE adding toolbars, etc.) it doesn't slow my browser down in the slightest, and I still use much scorned IE. Great work fft2! And thanks :-)

Blessed Holidays,

I've probably been to most of the sites featured at one time or another but it's nice to have them in one place vs. scattererd in my disorganized favs. I've found a couple of nice models using it so far. Opera is my primary browser but on the occasions that I use IE, it's there and lends itself to spur of the moment exploration. No problems for me with function or suspicious activity.

One note, 3DCafe has had the "Our Free Stuff section is being updated! Please be patient we will be back!" message up for at least two years now. I suspect they just hope a few people will decide to sign up for their VIP membership. Personally, I'd remove their link.

Baloney!  Why not just create a list of links to these fabulous sites.  Folks, you do not need to install a toolbar or develop software to distribute links.

This is a sham, a scam, and flim flam.

redtiger7 ( ) posted Tue, 23 December 2008 at 5:56 PM

Yeah, really. Why not just list the links on a webpage of forum post rather than force us to load an unnecessary toolbar onto our system?

mrsparky ( ) posted Tue, 23 December 2008 at 7:54 PM

Attached Link: http://www.conduit.com/Partner/ConduitRewards.aspx

Conduit.com is the company behind the toolbar and it does appears to be cleanware.   So logically if this thing doesn't give you spyware, popups or sell you anything , whats the benefits for the company who codes the toolbar and the users who customise it ?

If you look through the Conduit site it's vague about why they offer this service and what they do with the data collected. Do they sell it as aggreated data, sell personalised search historys and data tracks to others, etc etc.

For their customers though theres a clear benefit - they get reward financial rewards (link above) for the toolbars performace and number of downloads.

So - IMHO - the main question has to be is this right or wrong?

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

lmckenzie ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2008 at 3:33 AM

I found: "Conduit can boast an exclusive deal with Google, which powers the toolbars' search box. Conduit's innovative search monetization model allows the service to be completely free and without adware, malware and spyware."

and: "(Marketwire - December 16, 2008) - Conduit, a leading provider of website syndication solutions, today released the latest figures surrounding the vigorous growth of the Conduit Network and the corresponding surge in the number of community toolbar installations. The Conduit Network is adding more than 600 new publishers per day, and new user downloads of community toolbars have now surpassed a staggering 500,000 installs per day."

I suspect their major revenue is coming from the search deal with the Big G. I'm assuming that Google wouldn't want the flack from millions of people using one of their partners products that turned out to be evil. At least not more evil than anything Google itself might do, which in turn is dictated by their Chinese Overlords. Yes, someone's making money off it as with just about everything else on the internet. In terms of privacy, Google probably owns all our asses one way or another. I have a separate locked down browser running TOR so I don't have to explain the esthetics of midget lesbian oil wrestling to Chairman Wen.

There are tons of link pages available like http://www.3dlinks.com/ so why knock the guy for not creating another one? This is an alternative that you can use or not. Yes, the toolbar has a link to ultrasounds of Barack Obama and Bristol Palin's secret demon love child but it doesn't appear to be working - yet.

Who actually created the thing? He says he created it then says he duplicated it? Then the link goes to a company. So...who created it? I will probably skip this one but thank you for posting it.
