Subject: I need a horse tail!! Zygote Demon + horse tail =Satyr

ralphm ( ) posted Thu, 23 September 1999 at 3:53 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 10:30 PM

After purchasing the Zygot demon I noticed how close it is to the Greek mythological Satyr in appearance. Does anyone know of the existance of a horse tail prop? Or would some of the forum Modeling experts consider making the prop and posting it? Ralph

Why not use the one that the Horse has?

Try one of the ponytail props....I think someone early on did a stick on pony or pigtail hair prop....maybe Eric Westray has one? Scarab <-very familiar with that end of the horse

Bring in the horse, make all the parts invisible except for the tail, and walah, instant horse tail!! Bring in the little devil, and then "dress" or "parent", or "conform" the tail onto his little tushy and then you again have walah, instant mythological Satyr!! Proffesor Radart.

heya; or chop off the horse tail and make it a prop. either by exporting it by itself from p4, or in another 3d app. (and rad... it's "voila" ;) (i know, you're not a professor of the french language.))

Actually you can go into the group editor and select the entire tail and click make a new prop. Or you could do the same thing with the ponytail. Just select all the parts of the ponytail you want and click make new prop. The ponytail actually looks better than the horses tail (which is very lame IMHO). Diane G

Voila!!! Ach, do lieber!!?? Now I get it!! Thanks bloodsong! With your help, I'll be an english prof. in no time at all!!

pssst.. goat, satyrs have goat's tails, they are little goat-men, cloven hooves, lil'horns. 8^) I have a photo of a beautiful sculpture from a museum in Paris that I am looking for, I will post it if it would help as reference. Anson

heya; ponytail, good idea! (it looks more like a goat/satyr tail anyhow.) anson; hey, they want a horse tail... :🤷: or... they're not zoologists, like i am. ;) but heres an idea... model a goat/satyr tail and post it for us. just so we dont mess up the classic satyr, ya know! ;D

RadArt ( ) posted Thu, 23 September 1999 at 7:19 PM

That lil' devils' gonna get you Anson, if ya keep calling him a "goat"! Then your website won't work either!! Be warned! Radart.

anson ( ) posted Thu, 23 September 1999 at 8:02 PM

Ok Bloodsong, I accept the challenge. Zoologist eh, very cool, that was my 2nd career choice as a kid. You can try to guess what the 1st one was, but good luck! 8^) On satyr-tail, comin' up. Anson BTW, my appologies, I just looked up the definition, and it says "characteristics of a horse or goat" so it's not anyone else's fault if Merriam/Webster is wrong! 8^)

Hey Radart, considering my html abilities, the only effect that ANYTHING could have on my website, is MAKING it work! 8^P goatsamp.jpg Well, Bloodsong has managed to draw blood from a stone once again. If anyone thinks that this tail might be useful, we can figure out who would be willing to host it, someone with a free webspace idealy. it's a rather large package, considering what a small element it is. The total size of the zip is about 500k, that includes PP2, rsr, and a texture map, in tiff format LZW'ed. The "tufts" on the tail have a higher face-count, to enable modifications with P4's deformers, with better results. So is it a hit or a miss? Anson

Hey, Thanks for all the ideas, guys, gals, But about the tail. Anson I spent a couple hours on the net today researching Greek Mythology and every site I could find about satyrs and every reference I found said satyr have goat lower half with horses tails and horse ears. Most of the graphisc I saw also had long flowing horse tails. A couple of sites also said that sometimes the satyrs were depicted with a horse lower half,Also saw a couple with goat tails. Guess they came in several flavors. So I went with horse tail since most were depicted that way. Ralph

Oh well, I guess I was thinking of "Pan". Well, it was good practice anyway, was that a new record for me Bloodsong? 8:P -Anson "tails..I lose" Anson

RadArt ( ) posted Fri, 24 September 1999 at 1:59 AM

Well, as long as it wasn't a "baa, baa, baaaaaaaahhhd" experience, eh? Hey, don't look at me; it's that Zygote devil; he made me do it!!!! I was possessed!! Radart, (and I turned my head right around while I typed it too!)

ralphm ( ) posted Fri, 24 September 1999 at 2:04 AM

Hey Anson, if the goat tail you did is posted somewhere I'd like a copy. I have a ancient Greek coin in my collection which depicts a satyr carrying off a nymph. The art work on the coin is really quite extraordinary, considering that the dies used to punch the coin were engraved by hand around 500BC. I've been toying with the idea of doing the figure in poser. Ralph

wohoo! look, i made anson do something! it looks very nice anson! (have you considered submitting it to poserworld? they host files for anyone who wants to contribute. of course, then it wont be on fun stuff for you to visit and see how many drooling fans downloaded it... :) ) i woulda made a smoother one, with lower poly count... just because it is such a small 'part' prop. but this one is more cool than i imagined! :)
